That only applies to cars with MMI - it doesn't apply to the B7.
Fair enough, I did not look in detail as I did not need a battery !

Would condensation in the ignition system not be a possible cause?

There's isn't an "ignition system" in the old sense of the phrase (points, coil, distributor).

There is a plug per coil, each driven directly by a 12V feed from the engine ECUs (4 per ECU). The likelihood of both ECUs and all 8 coils failing and re-starting at the same time (if they didn't the engine would run rough as it wouldn't be running on all 8 cylinders) is pretty close to zero.

assuming you took this VCDS log after you changed the battery, alot of the issues seem related to a low battery which is to be expected from a new (not yet fully charged battery) further none of your faults have occured enough times to be your actual fault.

The one that sticks out to me is

005634 - Power Supply Terminal 30: Voltage too Low
P1602 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100010
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 2
Mileage: 0 km
Time Indication: 0

Freeze Frame:
RPM: 0 /min
Load: 0.0 %
Speed: 0.0 km/h
Temperature: -40.0°C
Temperature: -40.0°C
Absolute Pres.: 0.0 mbar
Voltage: 0.000 V

I see no reason why the voltage should be 0 Volts if that was my car I think I might be alarmed at that, as it indictes a possible discontinuity in the power feed to that relay, I would double check the fuses, which is an odd thing to say as normaly a fuse blows and that is the end of it, but I have experienced times where fuses have not quite blown, and have caused issues

I'd clear the log and try again.
If you look at the starter one the voltage is down to 10v which even under cranking is a bit low. Certainly low enough to cause issues.

Now that I have Elsawin I have managed to ascertain that this terminal 30 nonsense is just that, NONSENSE. If terminal 30 was really broken you would know about it as it powers almost everything the driver sees and touches.

OK The relays are situated in the fuse bay, according to the instructions they are driver side, but I think on a UK vehicle it is passenger side, anyway im including a piture of what it looks like, and a picture that details the functions of the relays, I strongly recommend iinspecting relays 1,3 and 4, for evidence of overload, for example burn marks being left on the pins, it would have been really useful if you had spare relays to test in their place.

The error is saying intermittent low voltage. This can manifest itself as lots of screwy symptoms.
wonder if an earth point has come loose or something.

I hear what you are saying but if the entire dash was intermittently dying he would have posted that, but that would be the result of an intermittent terminal 30

True but I wonder if the voltage sensitivity of the dash and other systems is lower than the starter system.
I'm no sparky and alot of it is voodoo but I've seen all kinds of wacky things happen on other hardware when voltages start going wonky.

Quick update... Had decided to take car the to Audi and get them to fix it... albeit their expensive labour rates!
I know you guys gave alot of input but i honestly have no idea... not a technical person so aint got the foggiest! Really really apprieciate the input from you guys but im just not cut out for the techy side of it.
Anyways the car wasnt starting yesterday sat there for literally 20mins trying to fire it up to no luck! So thought i'd try wiring up a set of jump leads to see if it starts... low and behold it fired up straight away!

As you know i've tried a new battery from GSF and it didnt work when i connected the new battery up... but im thinking now that, that battery was a little smaller then the standard RS4 one in there already so maybe thats why it didnt work then?
Im considering getting identical battery from Audi to see if it will work?

size isn't as important as the battery's rating
you don't need to get one from Audi as it'll be very expensive but a good quality one from ECP/GSF will be as good
What size did you put in, 075?

Interestingly the jump cables attach at the front under the access panel near ecu2 and the battery is all the way in the boot. I'd be tempted to hook up the old or new battery that wasn't working to the jump lead points and try the car. My money is on a dodgy earth or live point in the rear and this is affecting the start.
Once started the car will run fine on the alternator power feed.
