Tyre choice
They can corrode (setm and thread) but this is only an issue if you leave them exposed i.e. don't have the valve caps on or regulalry use acid based wheel cleaners and water near them. I had similar issues when I used Wonder Wheels et al but since I prepped my wheels and only have to use normal car shampoo to clean them they last lasted my last tyre change and 23k miles with me checking tyre pressures every week.

The batteries in the TPMS sensor don't last forever either, something live 5-7 years and then you need new TPMS sensors not just valves.philipwalker wrote:They corrode, the thread part breaks off when filling with air.birdseed wrote:Thanks for all the replies!
Why would i need new TPMS valves? I had owned a A4 with the TPM system before and replacing the valves never came up.
SportContact 3 Vs Pilot Sport 2 (Both RO1)
Currently running Michelin PS2s on my RS4, but have heard good things about the Continental SportContact 3. How do they compare?
Re: SportContact 3 Vs Pilot Sport 2 (Both RO1)
Nnnooooooo! Don't do it. Stick with PS2 / 3's or if you have to change go to Goodyear F1's of Vredestein's.RSLS wrote:Currently running Michelin PS2s on my RS4, but have heard good things about the Continental SportContact 3. How do they compare?

I haven't tried PS2s, but don't rate the Contis. They were fine at first (same as on my S4) but lose turn-in early in life. Strangely it always seemed more pronounced at low speeds
How about trying Vredesteins?

I must admit that the Vredesteins have been on my list from the start, but the owner reviews and magazine / professional tests seem to be at odds with each other.Dom81 wrote:I haven't tried PS2s, but don't rate the Contis. The SC3's were a liability in all conditions after 5k miles and only lasted 12k miles anyway. Goodyear F1's after that for me lasted 19k miles and have the edge over my current Vredesteins on road noise and ultimate dry grip. That said the Vredestein's are on a par in the wet than the F1's, an excellent snow tyre because of the tread whereas F1's and PS2's aren't, have lasted me 24k miles thus far with 3mm left and are cheaper.

Michelin Pilot Sport 3's
Michelin Pilot Sport 3's - £255 a corner + nitrogen filled replacing P Zeros
Isn't it just the way; Vredesteins a year and a bit ago were little known and now people are using them; they've gone up on average £40 per tyre! a 25% increase since I last bought them!
Fortunately there are a couple of places where you can still get them for £165 per corner; just hope ths is the case when I have to buy again as I've still got a couple of mm left before having to replace.
