Ah ok! Thanks for the info. I'll see what they say first - the receptionists dont seem to like me trying to tell them what to do! When I pick it up Ill try and talk to the tech and see what he says! But it sounds like just the same issue, "strange effects" indeed!

unplugging pipes proves that)

Most Audi receptionists (who know very little if anything about cars and almost certainly have never driven an RS)seem to think they are experts. Insist on talking to the Master Tech who worked on your RS.bn8959 wrote:I'll see what they say first - the receptionists dont seem to like me trying to tell them what to do!
(Sorry I missed this thread when I posted my 'Hesitant motor this evening')...All I can explain the sensation as is like this... you put your foot down (100% throttle) in 4th or 5th and anywhere between 5k and 6k rpm it's like there's a strong gust of wind which hampers your progress,
These symptoms are very similar to mine...
My motor has now done 29k with mixed driving.
You had a new engine?mmaric wrote:I had a similar problem, ie, a flat spot at 4k to 5k revs, especially in 4th gear.
Listers Audi in Coventry replaced the engine and intake manifold under warranty.
Hey presto flat spot gone!

I had the mobile Audi Tec guy (Mr Unhelpful) visit me today to diagnose my problem
Plugged his PC in...no faults recorded. He said it was probably bad fuel. He stated this was excessive speed & that there was nothing that Audi could do further to assist!
I also asked about the ECU/0080 version/updates/reset etc, but he didn't have a clue what I was talking about. I had a look at his PC screen & seen that one of the codes was 0080 - presumably mine?
His manner got worse when I said that there may be similar problems elswhere & possible reasons why via these forums. The answer to this was ''You shouldn't listen to other people, they don't know what they are talking about'' (this was the same guy last year that said there was no problems with the DRC on RS4's...).
I accept that there is a problem testing cars with high speed problems, but what does one do? All I got was ''Audi cannot help further''.
He made me feel that I should never drive my car fast, and if I did & there was a problem, then tough!
Since this, I have phoned Audi UK about the unhelpful manner of their Tec guy & my problem.
They said they could help further. I was told to take the car to my dealer & ask for a DISS Report. This could then be sent to Milton Keynes for further analysis. Now awaiting a call from my local dealer.

I got mine back yesterday after 3 weeks with Derby Audi (whos Techs are excellent by the way).
It's had a complete new engine. Unbelieveably the problem is still there - i.e. erratic power from 5500 upwards. I'm going to allow 1000 mls or so before taking it back. They've already agreed to continue to diagnose it should the problem continue. I'm running out of ideas and anything caused by the following has now been eliminated:
1. Anything to do with the mechanicals in the block&head including injectors/plugs/coilpacks/manifold
2. fuel pressure regulator/bad fuel/vacuum systems
3. Air flow and or sensors
4. ECU & Settings (on 0090 with basics reset)
5. Exhaust (its had 2 new rear silencers)
Does anyone have anymore suggestions?
