MRC all the way for me, I've seen MTM car's at dougs which are there to be fixed!!! so that gives me some indication of how competent he is.

When I got my B5 it was running like a dog with the usual faulty DV's and two big boost leaks. All of them were fixed in good time and I got a custom remap whilst there.

It's not missed a blink since apart from the water temp sensor which Doug replaced when he fitted new rear pads.

Quality service imo and I will be back for catback and pre-cats gutted!

My car had an MTM map by QST when I bought it, but I went to MRC having read posts here. I get the impression dealing direct with Doug and being able to call on him (hje does answer the phone again) and speak directly - having work done while you wait all works very well for me.

My brother also lives just outside of Banbury... quite handy :)

SO Doug lived up here did he? oh well gravity affects everything eventually.

yes, yes ,yes I'll get the car to MRC 1DAY but for now its on the back burner in my mind.

Would be handy if MRC had a curtesy car customers could use while theirs was in for work.....

TopBear sounds like your happy with the car now :) catch up soon mate.

MRC of course!!!

Post by quattrosteph » Thu Sep 06, 2007 7:14 pm

Very satisfied with Doug work, he really know the S and RS B5 especially and others. He goes straight to the problem and fix it. He is quick and he doesn't rip you off ( wish does explain why he is so popular, very busy, and very hard to get on the phone sometimes...).

For Doug it is not only a job it is a passion :kissmyrings:

I don't think that's very fair - It's not only MTM cars that fail, standard cars can too as well as Revo mapped cars and yes cars that MRC have had a big hand in go bang too - it's just what cars do

I reckon it's gonna have to be a trip down to MRC for my car aswell, heard too many good things about them on here.
Apart from engine work, does MRC also do suspension packages and other bits?

Yes, they do. Cam Belt changes etc as well. I had my Brakes upgraded there for less than I could buy the parts alone elsewhere , and all done on a Sunday when they were hosting a S2 forum meet! Top service!

No experience of QST but a mate from Ireland has and has had all good experiences. My car was AMD when I bought it and always felt it was on/off power. Since the MRC custom re-map the car is soooooo much smoother. Don't think it's any more powerful but it's much much better to drive and now less likely to blow the Turbos (AMD set-up giving too high EGT temps).

I'll be using MRC in future for all major work. (Cam Belt next)

I don't want to air my dirty laundry publicly, because as I said, I prefer to use MRC, however my point was that Kim (QST) is also extremely knowledgeable and competent when it comes to our cars. Some people find his mannerisms irritating, and he is certainly not the cheapest, but they have been in business for a long time so must be doing something right.

Never experienced the 'new' guys on the block or indeed Kim (apart from him driving like a girl in the RS4'ed S3 around Oulton Park :D), but can add that in the good old days the MTM458 was, and still probably is, top quality gear. IMHO, it was faster on a track than my Sportec RS460, the AMD and Revo like for like offerings at the time - especially out of slow corners - some sort of overboost we reckoned.

I worded it wrongly and it did seem a tad unfair.

I meant there was a car there with MTM upgrade which they had tried to fix but couldn't as far a I remember.
