mainbeam on prefacelift and facelift s4s I have done are h7. I have not changed dipped so can not comment, but on cars with no zenons but facelift and projector type they are H7 as well.

I got mine from HK, no prob, arrived in 3 days, didnt see the point of spending an extra 20 or 30 for a UK seller.
Face lift, dip = d2s, main = h7. You can get replacement d2s for about 35 notes.
Also be aware you might need to do some tweaking once the bulbs are installed. My mains are a bit low, but because they are so bright it doesnt really affect the driving.

All BLOW and no GO.........
Had already thought of this and it does worry me a bit. The contrast could be too high and you can get glare from larger road side signs too.Tartan_Rob wrote: When driving at night, the only pain is when you switch them off so as not to dazzle oncomers, you think you have lost all lights..>! LOL
On an unfamiliar road, as any tail lights ahead get far enough into the distance, my judgement says I can switch to main beam to ease my visibility. If my main beam were "brutal" would I be able to use them in the same situation without blinding the mirror of the guy in the distance?
I'm torn.......
next breath....if I do decide, a trip to MRC to have them supplied and fitted would be my preferred approach (they are localish)......lets find out if they plan to stock them or at least can get a consistent supply...CliveH wrote:Cool - ask what he can offer for quantity too - I can feel a Group Buy coming on...oliew wrote:clive, your right haha

'98 S4 Avant Main beam bulb changing?
Hi folks, another newbie here! I want to change the main beam bulbs on my '98 S4 Avant, but can't get at them! I've removed the two Torx screws at the top and have been told that I have to press down on the white nylon screw I can see through the inspection hole at the front end corner of the wing and then remove the whole light unit. Does this sound right? Thanks for any help!

NO! - you're trying to remove the whole headlight assy, this is not neccessary.
On the back of the headlight unit there are two small screws which you undo, then the back of the light comes off by unclipping (press down) the two tabs near to the screws you've just undone.
Wriggle this piece which has the ballast attached to it away, you can leave the wires connected to it, just unclip the bit of loom over the tip of the headlamp.
Once inside you can see the bulbs, use a mirror if you want to see more.
The bulb is H7 and comes out in the normal way by releasing the clips (pinch together and swing back). Look through from the front of the headlamp to help line-up when refitting.
I have done this several times now both sides and it's easy, far better than removing the whole assy (once you've sussed it out)
If you are trying to upgrade the bulbs, this is IMHO a waste of time as the wiring is too small to supply big amps, you need to relay them.
Far better to do the HID conversion for real benefits, less than £150.
