Reckon if you wanted to, you could megasquirt it but keep it looking exactly like a flapper setup.

I suppose if the flapper air meter went in my rangey I could replace it with an aftermarket fuel injection system without affecting it's attractiveness (or lack thereof, as the case may well be) as an original classic.

Yes & No. It is a way in to supercar performance territory with all the practicality of an A6.
I needed to pop out last weekend to swindon & back. I could have taken the Mazda, spent sod all on fuel and plodded my way there and back.
Instead I took the RS, probably burned 5x as much in fuel cost, probably didn't actually go any faster top speed, but nevertheless quite enjoyed the journey and was disappointed (as opposed to relieved) when I made it back home.

I do yes, but it's going to be to expensive I would think to get it done. Personally I think the 4k I'm likely to spend is already a ridiculous amount. Spending 50% of the car value on one repair is nuts. Having already spent 25% of the value on the cambelt, I'm looking at 75% of the value of the car in less than 6 months on repairs !

In anyones world, surely we need our heads looking at ? :audibash:

The C5 RS6 was always my dream car when they came out, I've now dared buy one and wouldn't have any other car. I loved my manual S5 as in the fairly modern interior, looks and gearbox but it just wasn't fast enough and I was longing for the RS6 which is what I have wanted to buy for the last 5 years but didn't have the balls after reading horror stories on here.

The issue with parts no longer being available is annoying though - I got Unit 20 to look at my coolant leak and they narrowed it down to 2 radiator hoses which are no longer available anywhere. I've bought them from a breaker but wonder how many other parts are NLA.

Unit 20 mentioned the parts for the gearbox rebuilds are getting rarer by the day. Unless an aftermarket company starts making the bits does that mean one day the autoboxes will become useless?

I really like the auto and have been enjoying messing about with the paddles, I always hated stop start traffic in the S5.

Bare in mind it was a £70-80+K car so still has the running costs of that

Probably the best value for money for somebody looking for the power and practicality on the market today, but like all cars that hit their curve, they look to slowly be rising but time will tell

Are the missing hoses listed in this lot? https://www.do88.co.uk/product_info.php ... s_id=10458

Sounds like an official owner's club might be needed to liase with current parts suppliers to encourage them to produce short runs of necessary bits and bobs.
