Terrible situation, I was once encircled by several aggressive mechanics when I refused to pay for work on a Subaru under similar conditions, it’s not a nice experience.

Now you’ve payed I fear you will have a nightmare getting anything back as effectively it’ll have to go to court and you’ll have to front the costs. I’m no lawyer but I too feel the police had no right to demand you pay before taking your car, this seems like a civil matter to me?

At least you have it back and it’s working though. Thanks for the name and shame hopefully you’ll save someone else the trouble in the future.
