There is no ill effect other than a bit more wear before it gets to temp. Castrol edge is still a 504 spec and is totally fine just the 0w-30 is the newer recommended oil after their investment with shell to make a 0w-30 504.

I would have thought a lower 'w' number, i.e. a 0w rather than 5w would mean a better cold start performance, therefore reducing initial wear from cold rather than causing more wear.
