It didn't take them long to whip the motor out then ?

Best of luck that they don't find anymore dramas...

IME on some engines this type of seal often breaks down over time.
I dont know why they use them tbh.
My 997 had similar problems at 5 years old and was also an engine out job.
It was done under warranty but I dont want to know what the cost was.

The engine on these knocks out some serious heat...don't know if that would cause gasket failure?

As I've said already my leaks can't be seen from under the bonnet?...just hope everyone else's cars aren't slowly suffering the same fate as mine?

The only leak that Audi found initially was the oil pump?..because they removed the plastic under-tray to change oil this seeing the leaked oil on it.

The three today have only been found because engine is out?

At least when sorted I've piece of mind for a few years??....if I decide to keep it!!!!!!

I had a look at mine last week as best as I could on the ramps with the undertray off and it was ok, no leaks.
It might be something as simple as the covers were not de-greased or something at the factory.
I have an inspection pit at work so will check again in a few months.

The actual job of changing the gaskets is only two hours labour according to Audi?....it's the access too them that's the nightmare.

Sorry just to clarify was reading the tech sheet is it actully a "O" ring that is leaking on the oil pump not a gasket?

So... oil pump...O ring.
Timing chain covers...gaskets.
Rocker head covers...gaskets.

so they are charging you only 2 hours Labour?

They charged me 6 hours when my coolent hose burst at ADI 2012, the pipe was only £75 and they didnt even take my engine out, just the whole right hand side of the car.

Chris, you should be getting the costs up front before agreeing to the work, and even then haggling the rate. Labour rates at my Audi dealer are £136 an hour with the VAT, yours will most likely be similar. I hope you've been doing this!

Amar

All cost up front matey

They have been calling me at every stage asking if I want to proceed and I have negotiated with them.

I've been given some good will and labour rate is 80 per hour.

Fair enough, that's not bad then, I had a feeling you were going in at it blind. Mad, isn't it? £2 O-ring, £2k labour.

Just had a look under my car as its on the ramp having the exhaust modded and copied so they can send one out to OZ.

there is fresh oil leaking from the undertray and its everywhere under it so its going in on Friday for bearings so I will get them to look at it as it wasn't that bad in sept when I cleaned it up, it was also serviced in Jan by Audi so not sure they picked up on it.

my car has just been serviced at the dealers (currently on 24k on 09 plate)... nothing mentioned about oil leaks etc.. and they did an oil change.

Just wondering if its something more common on higher mileage or slight older cars, or luck of the draw?

my warranty runs out at the end of May and i dont fancy getting stuck into £1,000s for labour bills. Wonder if its worth getting the garage to do a quick check.
