Re: Weekly break-ins
How do you know someone is actually breaking in? Has anybody ever seen them or are you just waking up and finding the car unlocked? I had a sierra once that used to occasionally unlock itself.

Re: Weekly break-ins
It's possible that the occurrence could a user operational error; we've had this happen a few times in our own household with vehicles left open in various states.
Modern keys have quite good range and not that well designed, therefor if the 'open' button is accidently pressed from the keys being shoved into a pocket or rolling around in a handbag, it could open the car. My sister managed to drop her windows and open the convertible roof on her BMW (comfort access) by having the keys in handbag and dumping it on the sofa when she came in from work; she had quite a shock when a friendly neighbour knocked on her door to tell her she forgot to close her roof. A change in routine for where to keep the keys has solved the problem.
The OP's situation could quite easily be similar and a local 'youth' is just checking that the car is open by chance when walking past the vehicle.

Happens to me a lot, but with the value of these cars a simple check if it's locked before you go bed isn't as much hassle as, oh **** someone has stole my seats....
Re: Weekly break-ins
But if you unlock the doors accidentally and don't open a door, the car locks itself again after about 20 seconds.

Re: Weekly break-ins
The red light flashing on the driver's door is normally enough to tell you it's locked of not.
Re: Weekly break-ins
True, but this can be disabled by vcds. Maybe a previous owner turned it off.Shoppinit wrote:But if you unlock the doors accidentally and don't open a door, the car locks itself again after about 20 seconds.
Re: Weekly break-ins
really curious as to how they are breaking in
Re: Weekly break-ins
Bet he didn't. Easy enough to check for, though.MikeFish wrote:True, but this can be disabled by vcds. Maybe a previous owner turned it off.Shoppinit wrote:But if you unlock the doors accidentally and don't open a door, the car locks itself again after about 20 seconds.

Ahh good point I remember the Q5 doing that when I've been washing it.
If you press and hold the open button to drop the windows, and stop half way through, does the RS4 still re-lock itself ?

Re: Weekly break-ins
Hi
My pal lives in Essex and he had this happen
They had a device that can unlock the doors but not take the car
He had it all on his CCTV
Did they leave the door a jar afterwards

Re: Weekly break-ins
Why would they leave it a jar? Surely a can would be a better thing to leave it?D8vil wrote:

Re: Weekly break-ins
Apparently closing the door will trigger the alarm
When he spoke to Audi they are aware of this in the London area

Re: Weekly break-ins
You could be asleep in the car when the alarm went off and probably not even disturb.
