I thought it was just a plastic part not the lock? My problem is the handle doesn't open the door, differs to the other issue of the door not closing properly which I think is the lock issue I believe

That was my problem Keaney.

When the door is closed, blip the fob to unlock, tug on the handle and nothing... door handle didn't operate the catch mechanism for some reason or another.
Once open, the door closed fine.
I gave up, handed over some cash and got Audi to fix it for me!
New lock mechanism fitted and all has been well since.

My passenger side has shown the 'not catching when slamming the door' problem recently. Just bounces back until you get the slam-speed spot-on!
A few squirts of lube into the mechanism and it seems to have helped... for the time being!

@ keaney

Don't know if this helps you identify the part and part number ?
http://www.jimellisaudiparts.com/showAs ... lYear=2003
Click on the 'Fullsize image ' link above the picture , then identify the part and its number , then scroll down more to the part info list and click on the part number you just got from the picture , it gives part numbers and its options in there .
done using a '2003' car

If it IS a plastic part you need, there only a couple of dollars , so just multiply by about 10 to get the sterling equivalent

Yeah I've been looking at it on vagcat but can't work out which is the troublesome plastic clip. Thanks anyway but might take chrisrs6 approach and handover some cash to someone who can do it... Especially after seeing vids of how to remove the lock
