No, and no.

It still sets times that are within factory spec and makes me smile every time I drive it, so why should I bother with the hassle and cost?

Left mine as normal and as roads where dry and pulling in 3rd from 3,000 rpm don't think traction control would have been holding car back, when i try it again i will switch it of a couple of times to see if there's a difference,

traction control should make no difference
since you start rolling at such low rpm traction is not an issue

Sorry for the delayed reply guys, been away all weekend! Rang where I had it dyno'd on sat. The 360hp was calculated at the flywheel! So I will run a few 3 to 8 k tests the. Think it will be a carbon clean!

Have to say at least in the states they quote at the wheel figures which at least have less chance of getting wrong.

Digging up some old threads with some good Arthur in I've found my old torque spreadhseet.
it basically comes in at with average engine torque of 280lb/ft between 3k and 8k rpm in 3rd it should take 8.4 seconds. (not 100% but good indication).
If the 360hp was pretty consistent accross the rev range that's 85% of what it should be... so 85% of 280 average would be 238;b/ft.
This comes in at 3k-8k 3rd gear time of 9.9 seconds. Something that is well outside the margin of error when pressing the buttons.

It's why I think the problem of quoting peak power is making this worse that what it could be - sure it may be down on power but it's going to be up high on the rev range and isn't representative of a true 360 bhp car.

The times your where setting where pretty good mate, We could do with some chaps who have had carbon cleans putting some times up,

using all gears for the same speed range 36-96 mph takes a bit over 8 sec, goes to show how flexible/elastic this engine is

start at 2000 rpm and ease into the throttle and try to hit full throttle ~2700 or so
do at least 3 or 4 runs on the same road, same day
and play with the OBC timer a bit before the runs to get familiar with it

I have a spreadsheet with over 200 runs and at least 60 cars, probably more that I have entered
people just send them to me, lol
need
temp
fuel load, 60% etc.
road grade, level, uphill, etc.
altitude (btw 8,8 at 550 m ASL is great, that is an 5-6% HP loss! much more than carbon, 20-25 HP)
cleaned or uncleaned
mileage

I'm not much of a spreadsheet wizard, but it would be neat to create a plot of those results to see the variation, and have it in HTML so that a mouse-over on one of the dots would pop up the car's information (i.e. temp, fuel load etc.)

3,000 to 8,000 3rd gear test,

Post by Baz4 » Mon Nov 12, 2012 8:35 pm

No carbon clean, bone stock, 45k on the clock, 3/4 tank of petrol, 500mtrs above sea level, temp 5c at midday. Did 15 runs and averaged 8.5seconds. Slowest was 9.1
Carbon may well be an issue, but for 99% of all real world situations, surely human reaction times will be slower than the difference a carbon clean can make, just my 2p

Any chance you could post some of your spreadsheets up Aurther (In normal layman's terms pls) So we can have a look, Going to do my runs again at weekend and do a few more this time and get the times dead right, Did my first lot of runs at night which makes it quite difficult to keep your eye on every thing, (that maybe why i was hitting the limiter before hitting the stop button)

at >1500 ft those are good numbers (7 to 8% loss ~ 30-35 HP due to alt)

Done some more runs today in the day light and on a dead straght and flat bit of road so i could get times as near as dammit, Temp was 10 degrees still at 600 ASL and had the wife in the car with me this time although fuel was at about 1/4 tank instead of the 1/2 a tank last time , I hit 8.6 or 8.7 every run with a 8.5 as well, When hitting approx 5,500 rpm had a nice kick as well so all in all very pleased, :) (tried with tracksion control on and off and made no noticeable difference)

3,000 to 8,000 3rd gear test,

Post by Madmonkee » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:07 pm

I've done an 8.6 on Wednesday night at 10degrees, 8.2 at 8 degrees on Thursday after re-reading about bringing her up from 2k steadily then planting. No idea about pressure but I'd say pretty close to sea level as I was on a flood plain area close to the Severn.

I Will have to try that, as I am holding mine at 3,000rpm then flooring it so I know I am hitting the button at dead on 3,000rpm, Will give it ago from a steady 2,000 rpm then flooring from 3,000 next time it comes out of the garage, Have you had a decoke or been on rollers,
