If it was mine I'd change the tensioners to.

Mine's got a little 90 degree mirror attachment for this very reason.

Although an original dental mirror would probably not get through the plug hole, but the idea is there.

Funnily enough, the first thing I did when I got mine was stick it in my mouth. Then my ear. More ENT than dentistry, I suppose.
