No.
On the B7 (dunno about your S4), there's a small black nipple (phnaw phnaw).. about an inch down on the LH side. Inside the filler tube.
That's what you have to push.
It's tricky to push the nipple (snigger) with both your finger and hose inserted.

No.

Used to press my black nipple all the time..

Anyway..my method was...

Fill car to brim
keep filling until petrol pump was clicking off again and again
remove nozzle from filler neck
press button
you can hear the air being forced out
nozzle back in
few more litres in

Repeat above process until the level of petrol can be seen just on the metal flap.

Hey presto a tank holding an extra 7 odd litres maybe....

NOT TO BE TRIED WITH THE CURRENT PETROL FORECOURT QUEUES!!! Its time consuming and youll probably get lynched..

This has to be a strong contender for the most asked question on here - I've posted "how to" at least 3 times on this.

And yet I knew so many would say "I've never heard of this" and like you say it has been mentioned I can't remember how maany times in the 4 years I have beeen frequenting this forum.

For the uninitiated, go and look inside your fuel filler nozzle and you will see what looks like a switch on one side. Next time you brim your tank to the point fuel is in the nozzle, TAKE THE FUEL PUMP OUT MOMENTARIALLY TO ALLOW ACCESS BY HAND TO THE SWITCH; either push or pull the switch and you will hear a hissing sound and the fuel in the nozzle will disappear; essentially it allows air to escape from the tank and I believe flow into the reserve as well. Good for another 5 litres in some instances but best not used if on a hot day and you aren't going to use the extraa fuel immediately as it is technically the tank should have some airin it as an expanssion gap. Great on cold days though for an extra 20-40 miles.

Nope it's on all B6/B7 A4/S4/RS4 saloon (sedan), Avant and cabrio models.

Take the fuel filler cap off and look inside the pipe, on the side at the rear of the vehicle you'll see a small (approx 5mm) round "nipple". Fill until the pump stops and then slide the filler nozzle slightly out, enough to get a finger in the pipe and push the nipple down and hold it, make sure the filler nozzle is still far enough in to open the one-way flap in the pipe. Then you can, slowly, get another 5-9 litres into the tank - depending on how fast the pump normally is and how early it stopped.

My record is 69 litres, and the DIS was showing 20 miles left so thewre was probably still more than 4 litres in the tank.

Wow! Yeah DK says goes to zero with a gallon left - 4.54 litres. So that's more like 76 litres than 66 litres!

That is one of my favouites when i park up and walk away from the car and close the windows and sunroof. I'm sure there are people seeing everything close and wondering if there are special sensors in the car doing this. lol

Holding the auto button on the climate control is another good one. Tried them both tonight. Love the RS4 to bits. Such an amazing all round car!

If it's correctly coded you can also open the windows and doors by pressing and holding the key fob - but not the sunroof (even if you code it to enable this it doesn't work).
