BMW 135i encounter
Re: BMW 135i encounter
I should say at least 5 others that put out 'better' figures, especially for forced induction, but my experience has been with most of them that it's very easy to publicise massive power gains to exceed your fellow tuners' claims, but even easier for them to walk away from a poorly or over-tuned engine that has gone bang...still safely clutching the price paid

Re: BMW 135i encounter
I also presume that if he was leaving the roundabout first, he would have got his power down slightly earlier?
Re: BMW 135i encounter
Yes he was so I suppose that can be taken into consideration. Normally that doesn't usually matter as the rs always makes the ground up - but not this time!gareth_oau wrote:I also presume that if he was leaving the roundabout first, he would have got his power down slightly earlier?

There will always be someone faster on the road than you that you didn't think would be, from a GT-R to a Porsche to a Clio or Leon or better still, white van man in his chipped 1.7CDTi Astravan. Just let them get on with it and enjoy your car for what it can do. As said in previous threads these are not point and squirt machines because they don't have the torque profile but there is little including Elises and Exiges that will keep with you in anything less than arrow straight conditions.

Re: BMW 135i encounter
cars like that are potential sleeper cars, unless you are running a tuned setup, dont try it on as you will feel sh*t if this sort of thing happens and they will love to have taken an RS4
have you had the car on a RR or done any performance mods to it? Might be worth a trip to MRC!

Re: BMW 135i encounter
My first post on here (wife is considering an RS3) but I thought I'd comment on this thread.
I currently own a 1M and it wasn't until I took delivery and got involved with the various owners clubs that I realised just how well the N54 engines in these cars can be tuned. My 1M with a remap alone (by DMS Automotive) went from 349bhp and 402lb.ft torque (stock) to 402bhp and 485lb.ft torque.
I then fitted some BMW mid-pipes that delete the secondary cats and also a Forge intercooler. When the car went back to DMS last week, they re-tweaked the map and it made 431bhp. The torque stayed the same as they cap it, but uncapped it would have been up near 530lb.ft.
It's certainly very quick now and from some very mild mods and I'm certain that the 135i wouldn't be too much different in terms of power with these parts fitted. I'm told that the 1M benefits from an additional oil cooler and better overall cooling, so my numbers would be higher than a 135i, but it's not going to be night and day.
Anyway, I'm hoping that my wife will decide to go with the RS3 so then we can have two fun cars to drive

Re: BMW 135i encounter
Makes me feel slightly better about not being able to catch a Boxster S... maybe we should open the torque vs. power debate again.....

Re: BMW 135i encounter
Well I know the latest 335i isn't as quick as my B8 S4 and I would expect the 135i to be slightly down on the 335i. By this logic I expect the 135i was tuned as the B8 S4 and B7 RS4 are pretty close in a straight line.
Fortunately I haven't been suprised by anyone yet but can imagine the feeling when you couldn't catch him.

The RS3 can be gotten to 410PS very easily too. A great little garage you'll have there!
No matter where you go, there you are.
