Whats the rules in the UK, over here you fook someone up you can be arrested for it!!
"depends"
The key bit is "reasonable force for self defence".
Basically, reasonable means anything in proportion to the perceived threat.
So somebody breaks in and you hit em with a frying pan you've been using to cook with would be probably reasonable.

As above though, you can't be "prepared" for an attack. So whilst you could use a baseball bat you'd need to be careful on the story.
"I was in the garage and heard a noise and picked up the baseball bat that I keep there" would be probably ok
"I heard a noise and grabbed the baseball bat from under my bed" -harder to argue
"I heard a noise and grabbed the bat from next to my bed"... onto a loser there.

There other part is you can only defend yourself when you are actually in danger.
Two high profile cases being:
- Tony Martin. Convicted of murder after he shot a burglar dead. The key point on this (apart from sitting waiting with a loaded firearm) is that he shot them in the back whilst they were running away. There's no way you can argue it was self defence as no danger. He had to take aim and fire multiple times.
Didn't help that in court he said he'd do it again no problem.

- Bloke who's house got broken into, family tied up but he managed to escape, scare them out the door to which his brother and extended family who lived close by heard the noise and they chased the intruders down the street, catching one and beating him to a pulp with cricket bat.
This was originally being handled as attempted murder however after alot of public outcry it was dismissed (I don't know if the charges were dropped or reduced). Even though no perceived danger I believe the argument of what the guy had just gone through would have prevented reasonable thoughts at the time. However he was very lucky not to get sent down for what he did.

Personally the best defence is an old one - a feck off big dog.

Again it comes down to reasonable.
If 4 people are trying to break in to the point that you have time to call the police then certainly in my mind it is reasonable for the homeowner to look for items to defend themselves with.
The report doesn't say where the burglar was stabbed or what with. The fact that it was a single stab wound does count in their favour though.

It is a bit weird as if warning about a ball sounds like he is going for neighbour of the year, but if want to know who owns it there must be easier ways than going door to door surely ?

Must be worrying for you - if it were me I think I would look at adding blackjack or just the battery isolator like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RICHBROOK-Dis ... 1c1cde108b as well as being careful with keys - would certainly buy time/reduce chances of a succesful theft.

Battery isolator would be a pita.
The problem is that realistically he's not going to be able to nick the car without getting the keys.

I've got remote immobilisation tracker fitted on the RS. Whereas before i useto immobilize it when i know i wont be driving the car for a few days i did it...
But now i immobilize it every night... so they can take the keys but it wont even start. I just want to :bash: :bash: them to be honest for even trying it! I shall be waiting!

I mean who nowadays knocks on 4 doors to tell someone about a ball being kicked onto a car and that THEY'VE also checked for you that theres no damage so not to worry lol... Unfortunatly we don't live in that kind of environment nowadays. I believe those were the good old days that the old folks talk of.

The policeman rang me earlier on today after he came round in the morning and said his put out intelligence etc etc. So i've done the whole informing the police thing now i just got to be alert.
But like i said the car will not go anywhere even if they took the keys with the tracker so all they'll really be doing is coming round to get the sh*t kicked out them lol.

To be honest I've always gone with the option of leaving my keys on a hall table - not visible from the door or windows for opportunists but if someone is serious enough to break in then they can have them. Last thing I want is the family being in more danger from scum rampaging round the house looking for keys!
My car is always garaged so hopefully I should be better off - but always the risk of being spotted coming home. At the end of the day, if it gets nicked I have GAP insurance - dont think GAP insurance compensates for your family being tied up and held an knife/gun point!

I think the current government looked into giving home owners more power to protect their homes.
Prob cos traditional tory voter lives in big country house and gets robbed a lot.
