Has anyone ever had their license taken in France?
Re: Has anyone ever had their license taken in France?
Better still get an international driving licence and submit that instead of your uk licence. Knowing the Frenchy police if you dont submit your licence they might assume your driving illegally and either impound your car or worse still yourself!
Re: Has anyone ever had their license taken in France?
I had this 5 years ago,i was banned on the spot and keys for the fireblade taken off me,dvla held my licence until ban was finished in france,i was issued a letter stating i had a licence and it was valid still in uk germany etc but not france,i got surrounded by armed plod at a payage after passing a civvy with a tripod many miles back on the motorway,i was considerably over there tolerance..........I had to get a recovery wagon to take me and the bike out of the country into germany but luckily wasnt too far away from the border

Ive recently been had in germany too, large on the spot fine took and recorded all my details but thats it,they have completely unmarked bmws, pencil camera in corner of back window and mega discreet one behind rear view mirror, the system is completely invisible in the car also and utilises the standard nav display, sunvisors fold down and then illuminate when in pursuit along with a handheld beacon.

They returned them once i was all sorted on the recovery truck,i think perhaps it was my misunderstanding of the instantly banned bit,i went to get the keys to carry on after id paid the fine etc and lets just say it didnt go down well.

IIRC your ban will be recorded by the DVLA who should return the license once your "French" ban is over.
The French Police have the power to hold court by the road side by ringing a magistrate therefore your punishment is effective immediately.
I was under the impression that points abroad count even here, But a ban is usually just for which ever country your in. Therefore your "French" ban would more than likely have to be declared to your insurance company. I'd personally seek legal advice or speak with citizens advice for clarification as its a pretty grey area to most people.
This is just my understanding of it and i'm no way saying this is gospel!
On a less serious note how did a Citroen catch you?

Re: Has anyone ever had their license taken in France?
Just thought I woudl update this story - so far as it is an update.
I have NEVER heard from the DVLA and I have never seen my license back. So over three months now past, I think I will do what others have suggested and just apply for a replacement license and see what happens.
I KNOW this must have been asked before but I can't see it on a quick scan. My stereo is asking for its code and I don't have it amoungst my documents (the card is there but the numbers are not!) any idea where I start?
Thanks
Tim

if you were banned in France then that doesnt mean you are banned in uk ( or any other country for that matter), so I cant see why you didnt just apply for a replacement license? ok it would cost you but thats just the way of the world if you visit police states!
I believe there ARE moves to make bans in other EU ( or whatever the f**k its called this week!) countries apply here but not as yet. & lets hope the anti EU movement gets more vociferous & we get the f**k out of it soon!
