One of the reasons I bought an RS6 was its understatement.

The Second was the thought that soon this sort of car will probably be made illegal in this Country.

The other was as welky said "bollocks, You only live once"

Whenever I've driven flashy sports cars but I've always felt like a tw@t as I'm not particularly an attention seeker (unless I'm pi$$ed) and even "car" people think T055er.

Evos, Scoobies and now Skylines are (typically) boy racer cars and I'm well past that stage of My life.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't want a Lambo of course, I'd rather an Aston though just that for Me theres little point, if I had that sort of wonga then I'd rather have something to use on the track and a C6 RS6.

In the 6 virtually no-one knows that it's anything but an Audi Estate until You pull away from them.

I'm not too worried about the depreciation its been worth every penny and (fingers crossed) mines a keeper.

no no no no ( disclaimer; I am drunk in abu Dhabi)

The RS 6 ... Even if u bought a minter ... Will cost u thousands ... If you can't hack that, hell, it ain't for you! ... Yeah u could get a high mileage B7 which would sound better but u won't be able to put an IKEA Wardobe on the back and you'll be 100bhp down fro the off

I've had 3 RS 6's and not had a Gearbox problem, maybe I'm lucky, but hey, maybe I'm lucky iv not been gang raped in hyde park by george Michalis .... He who dares .....

This fast turning into a justify your buy thread

You cannot justify owning an RS6. You just do. Because you love it. You hate it, you want to set it on fire or drive it off a cliff. You know its going to cost you eleventy squillion bucks eventually, but you will cross that bridge when you approach it at 200mph with milltek thunder killing old ladies at 400 yards. It gives you wood when batter a porka off the line. And you have a bog in the back. It makes you cry tears of laffter when you drive thru multistory car parks and set Off EVERY car alarm. But most of all it makes you cry when some saxo boy buys one and you know that he has sold his car for 3 grand got a loan for 10 or 12 and in 3 days time that car will be on the market for 10...... or less.
Its true what has been said here, if you have to think about whether you can afford one...... you cant.

So the OP is probably being sensible... but the reason........ its not because the car is brittle, its because many buyers are justr cnuts.
It's all Bollox.
Half of what you read is bull and the other half is all <beep>.

As ever, the Mooch hits the proverbial nail on the head!

You only have to take a look at the topics in the threads on this board and compare with three years ago to see what's happening to the ownership profile..........

I just Cry on a daily basis :-) , just let my father take it home with him for the afternoon. Hearing it go up the road is just mental !!!!!!

My wife calls it the "The Thousand Pound Car" anything that goes wrong or need doing it cost at least 1K! Then if its cheaper she asks if the did it properly or there must be something they missed!! LOL...

Age, Warranty Issues, Running Costs, Short Term Ownership, just to name but a few.

As previous posters have said Supercar for Mondeo Money - But - when it goes wrong ouch!!!!!

Too many recent new buyers/owners on this forum and i don't understand this bit [the ones that have not read the "sticky" as a minimum] put up posts about how much it costs to maintain, even the basics seem a surprise to them, tyres, discs, pads, servicing cam belt etc........

Depite all the advice, "get it checked over by some one else, an expert, pay MRC UNIT20,QST,AMD a few quid to tell you what's wrong, what needs doing, it is not always about the FASH , its about what the servicing does not cover, pick up, that will bite you in the arse"

There is clearlyly a two tier market developing for the C5 RS6 as happens for many so called performance cars.

The enthusiasts market - probabaly paid too much in the first place for a good one but we knew what we were buying went in eyes open, slush fund or warranty bought to cover the surprises that will inevitably hit us all at some point. Look after our cars with on going maintenance and repairs as required etc etc........

The other sector - too many previous owners, likley to need cambelt in 10-15K miles, big service due in about 5K, discs and pads that will last about another 10K. Priced to sell - Bought by punter as it was "cheap",and just as they realise that a £3k bill is about to land in their laps which is 20% of what they just paid for it. It's up for sale again and or chopped back into a dealer.

But what we really need is more positive posts not more moans and groans about the RS6. An older demoraphic for ownership and for all the crap cars to be rounded up and crushed - which is probably will happen to the lower tier market, all on its own by virtue of the Darwin Theory. Just research some of the insurance quotes being paid by these people. Its high for a reason!

Who was it that said about fezzas that if you can't afford two, don't buy one. It's the same deal with the RS6.

It's not about the head. It's about the heart. Like a hot chick, if you can't afford to keep her in the manner to which she is accustomed, you're in for a heartbreak.

@RichRS6 : you echoed my thoughts exactly. I could have written exactly the same thing. I'm saving up for an Aston :)

Even though I am new to ownership I echo fingers comments above. I am a Bank manager by trade so usually take a cautious approach, saved some money for a "slush fund" and allowed £3k to get little things I had noticed put right (pads have about 2k left in them, split in breather pipe etc) but even with that put to one side I had underestimated! Maybe I was a little seduced by the power and sound of the v8 but am generally sensible.
Luckily I am not in a position where unforeseen expenses would require me to consider getting rid of the car rather than fix it but can really understand why some if the cars are bought and sold so quickly.
What I do not understand is how the younger buyers can find the insurance costs! Again I am lucky here as I have NOT just passed my test, my multi car policy for the 6 and Saab turbo is £600 a year. I hear the people at work talk about their kids having to find £1500 for a group 4 corsa!
I intend to get my car to the best shape it can be as standard (exception of remap), drive it a while and then see what I think I can improve on - wagners, updated brakes etc. I have probably already spent out what the car is worth in showroom condition and am about halfway there. Saying I don't care about how much I spend would be stupid but at the end of the day it is MY car and I want it to be the best (or beast) it can be - so it may end up costing me £25k but to be honest I don't intent to sell it!
These cars are really special so please please do nor buy one unless you can afford to keep it as it should be (ie special).
Sorry if that sounds a but if a rant but just driven 40 miles in the pouring rain down a roads to Tun Wells and am astounded by how good these cars can really be!
