I can hear mine running. They're not wrong about it being quiet. You have to be careful not to confuse it with the sound of the solar sunroof fans running (not that there's much chance of that at the moment!).

Sounds like a whizzing. About 100Hz.

Did you have to lift the bonnet to hear it? Did it kick in as soon as you turned the engine off?

Had to lift the bonnet and press my ear to the air filter cover. Even then, it wasn't very audible. I didn't check to see if it kicked in, just went to listen under the bonnet as soon as I stopped the engine.

Thanks for the prompt. The short answer is "no", even after lifting the bonnet and sticking my ear as close as I dare to the engine, there is no sign of a pump running.

I'll be going to MRC soon for a few bits doing so I'll get them to have a look at it. Otherwise all OK and sweet as a nut

Need new discs and pads are needed, and might just have a liberal sprinkling of MRC fairy dust... ;)

i think i've got problems with the after-run coolant pump. there's something in the engine bay that sounds like a bag of spanners after the engine's been switched off. it sounds like its just behind the grille on the drivers side, but it could be under the intake manifold, if its so noisy.
it also sounds to be running at the same time as the engine as well ?? can this be true ?
are there any other electrical pumps under the bonnet - oil, water, trans fluid ??
i need to get it checked out, as it sounds absolutely aweful...will let you know.

I don't think the afterrun pump could make a noise like a bag of spanners. If you saw it, you'd understand. At worst it might whine or squeal. More often it just dies discretely.

I'd check the fans. Both are electrical on the RS6. Sounds like one is damaged or has picked up some contamination. Can you see anything down there? Try rotating by hand (with the engine off, obviously ;) )

Nope, I've never heard anything but I guess I was expecting it to be loud. :D

It would be good to know the ins and outs of the afterrun pump; where is it and how to test if anyone fancies taking pictures.

P.s. Clive, I sent you a pm on SRS...
