These cars are solid well engineered beasts, all cars have niggles that cost money when they go,main agent labour rates is what makes most of the usual repairs quite expensive, buy a well cared for car and warm it up properly and run it on good clean oil and they will do mega mileage, invest in vagcom and keep an eye on it yourself,i also considered an b5 s4 before i bought my b5 rs4 but new i wouldnt be happy until id had the real deal so bought an rs4,well over 4yrs of thrilling ownership before i moved onto a b7,check the car well suss out the owner and how hes driven it,if all good BUY IT

I,ve got a 450bhp Imola RS4, has done 110k and I love it.

The yellow ones tend to be faster than the rest

Loving the Imola ones. Yes they're loud, but the car's brilliant.
As has been mentioned once or twice, the mileage/age itself shouldn't deter anyone if it has been maintained by an Indie (forget Audi).

As for tuning. So long as you don't go mad, you're not likely to have any issues. Anything up to 500bhp should be fine, and how much do you want ?! At 500bhp, these car's literally fly - quicker than the RS6 Stage 1, in stats and how they actually 'feel' too...

rtd wrote:i agree with you Shane, i think if you come to the rs4 from a everyday quick car or a modded s4 it could feel somewhat 'normal' i can't relate to this as i came from a diesel however, having driven a mapped car the difference is night and day.
I have to admit, I came from a 987 Boxster S (280bhp) and was a little dissapointed when I first test drove the RS4 and ran mine in standard form for over a year - it was actually quicker than I first thought. But now it's been 'improved' it's in a completely different league. I would definitely say a 450+bhp RS4 is 'supercar' quick (pre 2000 supercars that is). Incidentally, my fuel consumption is no worse now and possibly slightly better than before.

Lets get things straight you didnt see it for sale at all because it wasnt,i replied to a wanted ad and explained via pm that i wanted to wait until sale of my b5 had gone through to verify clean bill of health, and i had purchased the newer version for my b7,you said you had borrowed one and would source one elswere,as it was months not weeks and your pms had a similar tone to your last post i put it up for sale in the classifieds and it sold in hours.Ive dealt with numerous forum members here which have all been pleasant experiences,i cant say i take kindly to your comments but i will refrain from exchanging insults

er.. back on topic.

If you are feeling nervous about any car for any reason .....walk away. nothing worse than thinking you are buying a lemon and then proving yourself right.
