I saw a black avant at MRC with what i believe to be C6 RS6 ceramic brakes on the front, with R8 brakes on the rear with yellow calipers all round...

Looked the absolute danglies!!! :P

The gasses are from the pads, not the rotors. Therefore, the holes still have a beneficial effect. They also, as pointed out, will create improved cooling from increased surface area from which heat can radiate. I suspect the latter effect is small as most of the cooling comes from the centrifugal effect of the vented disc design with the radial "tubes" in between the disc surfaces, which when spun sling the air outward, sucking in cooler air from the center of the disc, exactly the same as a centrifugal water pump (both air and water are fluids). This is why brake cooling ducts (a la Phaeton) are beneficial, to feed more cool air to the center "intake".

I thought there's no such thing as centrifugal force... ;)

Okay, physics buff (major? professor? or just smarter than me?) . . .

At first I was ready to admit defeat, but then I dug further. Admittedly unknowingly, or perhaps sub-consciously (thank you Mr. Saathoff), I actually didn't use the phrase "centrifugal force", I said "centrifugal effect". I did have to do some searching to refresh myself on the difference between centrifugal and centripetal, so thank you for that. Now I won't mis-speak in front of my freshman physics major son.

If you want to see the true force of my engineering mind, you need to see the thread on limiting a car's speed through the speedo needle posted by DryBeer.

cheers

If you're going to be picky, gravity is also a fictitious force, but everything's relative ;)
