Still thinking about intercooler upgrades for the B5 S4. Is the mounting the same, or would this product need a little work to mount it?
What I'm trying to figure out is whether I go RS4 intercooler, this product, or RS6 intercooler? I'm not going the FMIC route, I know that already. At this stage, I'm trying to figure out what's the best bang for buck on my otherwise unmodified S4...

Rikrose, I chose to go RS4 IC route because I got them pretty cheaply and because I they fit without too much fuss (actually Doug @ MRC fitted them).
Doug had to trim the inside of the bumper slightly and a very small part off the leading edge of the wings (behind the bumper), Doug supplied the mounting brackets which rivet on. I took the opportunity to get the APR silicone hoses and an APR bi-pipe at the same time, as well as an MRC oil cooler since I plan to do more trackdays.
I'm sure Nige will give us more details on the uprated RS4 IC's soon, he has them on his car.

Both inlet & outlet are 2.5" OD, however AFAIK there is a step up in pipe diameter on the inlet (lower boost pipes) from 2" OD to 2.5" OD on the rubber bellows.I will meausre them tonight and post back here!
Might be worth finding out how them there ebay ones compare and also if they use OEM shrouds or custom ones, as the IC's are much thicker than OEM, so either they don't use the OEM brackets or the shroud needs to be cut loads to fit?

This intercooler kit has been engineered to fit the 2000-2002 Audi RS4 (B5 platform).
With some modifications to the fender and radiator support, these intercoolers will also fit 1998–2004 Audi A6 (C5 platform), as well as the B5 1998-2002 Audi S4. so you are probably right about cutting the shrouds..
That's what worries me about the text, as the S4 has both different pipes sizes & angles for the connecting pipework, so I don't see how the same IC can't fit both cars?? The blurb also says somethign about a stage 3 S4 (RS4 MAF, turbos, injectors,etc) maybe that's what the americans mean by an RS4, as they didn't get the RS over there (there's only a handful that have been imported too).

This graph came from logs taken on my car on an identical stretch of road, same outside temp, same heavy right foot ...So how do they perform on your car?

The logs are in real time i.e. 3 x runs back to back - no editing apart from I made them start at the same point in time for clarity only.
My MAF figures have also improved - I now peak on vag-com at around 6300rpm (was 6700rpm before) so I'm pretty confident they are doing their job at my stage of tune.
Since the logs were done I have been able to increase timing by 2 degrees with no change to my CF's.
The most noticeable improvement for me was the reduction in lag - my car now picks up hard from around 2800rpm in 6th (1.5bar peak), so I rarely drop below 6th on the motorway now.

well i sent him a message asking if they would fit onto my B5 rs4 and he has replied saying that the intercoolers were designed for the b5 rs4 with no modifications to the fender and radiator support, the only trimming reqired would be to the top outlet pipe because of the design of the endtank. he also says that they did not get the b5 rs4 in north america but they have fitted these to several b5 s4s with the rs4 wide body fender and bumper conversions with no problems. As for the trimming of the shrouds he dosnt see it as necessary but cannot guarantee this. These intercoolers are widerthan the oem, but he states that the endtanks on the oem intercoolers are nearly 3.5 inches wide whereas the core is only 2.5 inches wide.
They stand fully behind their product and will give a full refund minus the shipping if not entirley satisfied with their product.

You are obviously in the 'inner circle', so how long would it take to supply these IC's? I believe they are made to order.
I'm seriously considering these, but if my long term plans are for large dollops of power, then I'm wondering if it would be better to futureproof my IC arrangements with an FMIC.

The RS4 has different lower turbo to intercooler charge pipes, but apparently some people were not aware of that, even if they've worked on widebody S4s...
IMHO, if you are planning on 550+bhp you should consider an FMIC as your IAT's will go sky high. If you were to stick with SMIC's, then the only option would be to add something like an aquamist system.I'm seriously considering these, but if my long term plans are for large dollops of power, then I'm wondering if it would be better to futureproof my IC arrangements with an FMIC.
My car was stage 3 (MRC map, gutted DP's and Miltek dual) when the logs were taken - I have since put my OEM cat-back on. Difficult to say what power the car is producing - maybe around 450bhp - you may want to compare MAF figures with another stage 3 RS4 logged at a similar ambient temp.
I can't comment on availability on the forum (the mods will frown upon it). Suggest you make an enquiry on the aforementioned website?
