I'm probably one of the few people on this forum who has owned an RS2 since new so I guess I can give a more complete running cost perspective over the ~11 years I've had the car.
Insurance costs - currently paying ~£500 per year with Norwich Union Direct. Despite insurance going up over the years I reckon most years I've paid £500 or so for fully comp protected NCD cover.
MPG - over the life of the car I've averaged 22mpg. As alastair points out the car eats fuel when cold and when in stop start traffic. e.g. in London rush hour I get about 18mpg. My car has the normal ECU map and has never been tuned. I've always run the car on Shell Optimax (now V Power) although recently I'm using Tesco Super 99 as I find it runs very well in my R32.
Parts and Servicing. Glyn suggested a figure of about £1K per year I guess this would seem about right. My car has a full service history at the original supplying Audi dealer. In my experience normal servicing costs are quite reasonable (lub service seems to be about ~£200) whilst a bigger service is £400+ The expensive areas on the RS2 are brakes - I'm on my third set of discs and pads and they are'nt cheap - Over £1K at Audi prices. I took the plunge last year and upgraded mine to the OEM big red upgrade kit and basically renewed the whole of the suspension on the car plus new tyres (cost was over £4k) but now the car drives just like new. Other than brakes/suspension the rest of the car seems incredibly well built - in fact the RS2 has probably been my most reliable car.
Obviously if you have to replace some parts due to accident then costs can be frightening and availability can be a problem. e.g. the front and rear bumpers are unique to the RS2 and cost over £1k each at Audi prices. A lot of the parts fitted to the RS2 are Porsche parts and normally they are cheaper when you buy them from a Porsche dealer.
The interior of the car wears very well although the napa leather of the seats needs looking after with leather conditioner (I use Leatherique)

low mileage RS2s
Hi Lloyd,
sorry I can't add anything regarding the running cost issues.
On the subject of low mileage RS2s, Audi UK own an RS blue model with IIRC less 1k miles on the clock. Although Im not sure whether that's a good thing or not, especially being on it's original crazed tyres.
I've seen a red one in a private collection which I think is unregistered.
Then there's mine, which has 21k on the clock, RS blue
There can't be many more?
Sorry couldn't stop myself, annual post completed.
Roy.

RE: low mileage RS2s
Yeah when I saw the Audi UK car at the Glasgow dealer about 2 years ago it had 313miles on the clock.
