Seems that the results from hybrids have been good, but not as good as we hoped. Hybrids are great, but pricey. You can get similar results for much less money with K04's.

If you plan on replacing the heads and the exhaust manifolds then YES hybrids are the way forward. Hybrids cost nearly double that of modified K04's and wont give any better power really without the heads being done. Heads I have NO IDEA what they would cost - but a small fortune I would expect. So if you replace the heads fit Hybrids & the exhaust manifolds, you must be hitting 5 figures on the bill also into mid500HP .. then you are at a point where the S4 engine cant take the power and is likely to snap a rod melt something etc... so that means upgrading the internals etc etc... now we are talking 20k maybe - god I dont know.

Basically unless you have an RS4 engine, or an upgrated S4 bottom end & larger heads with exhaust manifold there is not much point spending the extra on hybrids.

Well that is my theory based on my resent research... this month anyway :P

rods dont cost that much. Maybe another £1200 on top plus labour.

Youre probably right about the Value for money side of things. The hybrids i been told do peak at 1.5 and maintain the peak upto and just over 7000 rpm. The ported and polished ko4 standard ones drop boost to about 1.3 after 6400 rpm or so. Im just quoting this, not too sure.

But for the extra money its not really worth it.

It ould be worth it if getting mtm manifolds or tubular manifolds and bigger exhausts, FMIC, and strengthenning bottom end. I think it will take you into 5 figures if going for FMIC and brakes as well, but it would leave you with a very powerful beast of a machine.

The MRC car as you know runs 500 on standard k04's and tops 500 hp, so I guess thats an example that you dont need fancy turbos to run good timing and torque. Oh and you will need a very good clutch kit to with all that power as well as doing Y pipe and bi pipe plus all relevant intake mods.
