I've just discovered that my RS4 is still wearing its original soft wheels. I had noticed a vibration through the steering wheel at high speed (100mph+) but thought it a wheel balancing issue. Now I reckon the wheels might be duff.

Anyway, I'm going to get Audi to look at them tomorrow when the car goes in for the EGT's. If the wheels are bent, I'll just get a new set of tyres fitted to the new wheels. If they won't change the wheels for whatever reason, I'm probably going to get some BBS CH 18's and fit decent rubber to those.

I had new Michelin's fitted to the front wheels to match the rears and the problem is cured! I can't believe it was just the tyres causing all the trouble.

The wheels are still bent though, just waiting for Audi UK to get back to the dealer and say yes or no.

When the cars first came out, dealers were advising to replace all four tyres at the same time due to problems with centre diff.......... maybe it was ESP that was giving the problems???????????

Glad I was of some use....

Only ever had the problem when on different tyres and as you say Simon the center diff takes a hammering from it. Never experienced anything like that when just replaing 2 tyres of the same make though.
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.
