croft and broken turbo
DaveP wrote:Hope it comes back fully sorted mate...I actually thought the replacement would be closer to 5k, it's actually got me thinking about warranty costs vs replacement turbo costs now !
i was quoted £4800 + vat by audi garage after they told me i was not covered by warranty! i didn't expect them to really, considering i did not have current warranty (due to audi current warranty issues), they did recover me from croft to canterbury as goodwill, i can't knock them for that.

Is that because the turbos are working harder to produce the same required boost due to the leak?
Is there any way a leak could be diagnosed via software? I know you can log requested/actual boost etc, but can you see how fast the turbos are spinning to see if they are working harder than they should be?
Cheers lads,
Ben

Yes, that's exactly why. If they work outside their operating tolerances too much for too long, they can be damaged. Is that because the turbos are working harder to produce the same required boost due to the leak?
Not sure to be honest, hopefully someone confirm. Is there any way a leak could be diagnosed via software? I know you can log requested/actual boost etc, but can you see how fast the turbos are spinning to see if they are working harder than they should be?
Best way is a pressure test.
MAF would be higher than normal. However unless you have already logged this or are very sure of what MAF to expect, it will be difficult to determine. You could get some figures from other members and compare to yours.

RE: 517.5 bhp
Steve,
Glad you have your motor back. Bhp figure is exceptional.
What did they say about the turbo failure ?
