Funny you say about being on safari. He's got thicker skin than an elephant's veruca.

The Last time that I saw someone that excited was THIS morning, I'm giving my mate a lift to pick up his 993, he's been on the phone twice already... Lucky bast*rd.

Nice one Bob.

Lets have some details and a few pictures when his hand is steady enough to take them 8)

The RS4 is still faster cross country though

Just got back from a petrolhead afternoon - mate had his 52k miler 1996 targa varioram inspected by a really nice independent chap in Fulham who did it gratis and we were there for an hour. No major problems so he took it. £26k. Just called him and he's outside sitting in it reading the manual.

In the same building is a guy who does valeting, including Jay Kays cars on occasion. 120 quid for the works. (work is done over two days) - uses Autoglym and Zymol. So after my door has been done at Hurlingham I'll be taking him up on it. So some recommendations there for the London lot.

I'll ask him to send me a pic if he ever gets out of it.

The Targa sounds like a great deal (if a little 'bouffant' for some tastes).

He seems to have grabbed a bargain by all accounts. The bad news - the guy who supplied it has just taken an RS6 he wants to sell. Damn tempting, but I have nothing to actually pay for it with. 03, 12k miles daytona, black leather £46k. So if anyone's looking...

Me driving, both of them
I'm no racing driver, and don't take silly risks, but I don't hang about either.

The RS4 is better on bumpy roads, and far better if they are greasy or muddy (which they all seem to be around my way !).

Don't get me wrong, I love driving the 993, but the RS4 lets you get away with murder whereas the 993 commands more respect. There's not much in it agreed, and not bad when you consider the 993 is a 6 year older design and giving away 100bhp.

Obviously only my opinion.

Bobjebb - would that be Jon Day at Specialist Direct he went to? He used to supply me with all my Porsches (when he was at Lancasters and Owens). He only deals in the best stuff (or used to) and is highly recommended, by me anyway!

JohnW - agree entirely.
