MTM tuning
Dunc,
from experience, either big turbo the S3 or buy an RS4,the MTM rechip is excellent, but in fairness the difference between the worst remap out there and the best is not going to be huge in terms of outright power.Flexibility, powerband, delivery etc will all vary, but its not like one will make 30bhp more than another...drive an MTM car and see if you like its power delivery(I did,I felt it made the best use of the turbo, felt very strong coming on boost with great midrange)if you do,go for it and its one less thing you need to buy when/if you bolt on a K26!
Or like the rest of the lads said.....just buy the RS.My S3 was a smashing car, with a lot of development gone into it and a very high spec, but its not fit to park beside an RS4!
We're here for a good time not a long time Dunc, you could be knocked down by a bus in the morning,so a while back I decieded that if I was going to have regrets they'd be for things I did,not things I didnt do

I believe they will knock that off the bill Dunc, maybe charge you a bit to ammend the mapping, I know that's what some other tuners do. For £7k+VAT I'd expect something!
There is currently an S3 on ebay claiming to have 345BHP with the following spec: Cheaper to buy that
1800cc Turbo engine ECU upgarde MTM Chip, 6 speed manual gear, 19 inch MTM design wheels with Bridgestone F1 type tyres new only 200miles, Porsche/Mov'it front disks and pads 4 pot brake kit with 322mmx32mm, standard disks on rear K26 Turbo by MTM, Miltek exhaust system, black smoked clusters, tinted windows, 8 speaker Bose Sound System with Cd Changer, 2 key fobs, V5 present etc.

It's better to have loved and lost, than not loved at all
I decided that whilst I could access the funds to buy an RS whilst still in my twenties, I bloody well would
Now I've got a big mortgage and the mrs is banging on about kids, there's no way I could get away with it
If the car had to go then at least I actually owned one.
Cheers
Ben

If you did there would also be the maintenence paymentsDuncS3 wrote:I am a touch ahead of you Ben, one kid with another due in March, wife and mortgage to support. I can imagine her face if I said I was going to spend 7k+ on an engine upgrade!

Hi, same here mate. She'd go up the wall ! Probably going to give it a go myself . Got a few of the bits required already.
What turbo does the RS2 run ? Anyone know ?
Also, VST mate, know you had the K26. What were the mods to the transfer box ? Bit of cutting and filing for clearance ?
Chris.

@Chris G
where the oil return comes off the bottom of the turbo,it uses a fairly big(-8 if not -10) 90deg fitting, you need to grind a little off the edge of the transfer box casing to allow it a few mm of clearance.I used an air Die grinder with a little ball head attachment, worked a treat.
A word of warning,if you plan on fitting this stuff yourself, access to just about everything is really really tight, its not what you'd call a fun job,its normally done with the gearbox out(to fit the paddle clutch)which improves things a bit but not a lot,I've done it both ways and its much of a much.
Leave it to Simon at QST,he'll be delighted to have another one to do......

@VST, your turbo was a K24/K26 ? What's the difference from the K26 ? Do they just use K24 exhaust housing and compressor wheel ? The wastegate is a RS2 item ? Sorry so many questions mate.VST wrote:the smaller pipe on the downpipe goes to the wastegate, the larger one goes to the turbo,The downpipe is all one piece it just goes into two pipes if you like at the top.
The clutch is a paddle disc, used with an OE pressure plate, release bearing and flywheel.worked really well.
Chris.
Nope,my turbo was a K26.
MTM also do a K24 kit,but whats the point of going to all that hassle and expense and not fitting the biggest turbo possible?
Sportec use manifolds bought from MTM and afaik use a K24,I'm sure AMD would be able to fill you in.
MTM also did a car with a hybrid K26/27 turbo(the yellow tuner GP car) but this turbo will only fit with the LHD kit .
