Recommended Brake Pads please, std. setup?
BRAKES - ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE
Latest Development! ECS Tuning have just announced another alternative. They are offering their "floating" discs as a direct replacement for standard, to fit the Audi S4 sliding calipers. This looks a really cheap alternative to the full "porsche big red" setup or stoptech brakes. At the price it must be worth it $600 in comparison to the full setup.
What do you guys think??

RE: BRAKES - ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE
DBA do the 5575 two piece rotor (no uk price as yet) and Stasis also do an Alcon two piece rotor solution ($900) as well as their BBK's.

99 Ming Saloon, Tanoga S/S, De-cat APR D/Ps, Miltek catback, Forge DVs, RS4 suspension, K04s, I/Cs, MAF, Clutch, injectors, oil cooler, airbox, Y pipe, spark plugs, front brakes, Vast EFK, Walbro fuel pump, MRC custom tune, 18" B7 RS4 reps, Kumho tyres
After weighing it all up, I've gone for the Stoptech solution.
To save costs I searched & found some good second-hand ones. Over in USA they like to take their mods. off again when they sell their cars. With Dollar rates so good they are a bargain even with the very high shipping costs.
Also found cheap K03's over there.
TIP - If you ever holiday in USA bring back some BBK's! walk them on the plane, $1995 over there NEW and $3,000+ here!!

I realised that, apologies for not pointing it out.
However for a 355mm solution using 6 pot calipers I reakon thats a very good price....postage at 70 Euro is much cheaper than US postage. I didn't see any mounting brackets in the pictures If you're interested make sure it is a complete kit.

Hi jeffw
I was all set to go to the show and had already contacted stoptech in the US. However I managed to find a second-hand 332 Kit in USA.
They are in my posession now. They are in MINT condition and complete, pads are still thick , they came from a guy in California (i.e. sunny and warm - no salt!)
I am very pleased. Total cost in Pounds I have ended up paying including, Shipping, Paypal Fee, Customs Duty, Customs VAT, Clearance Fee..phew! is £989.36 Took 3 days to arrive by air. Shipping by ship is cheaper but takes 4 weeks. Brake kit actually cost £639.00 The rest is the charges/Tax/shipping. If only I had a friend travelling to California!
Just paid $131.00 = £64.00 for a pair of K03's (not including any charges) They're coming by boat to save money. From a guy upgrading to K04's.

Thats a nice price for the K03's almost makes it worth having some sitting in the garage wrapped up warm.....
What is it with VAT in the UK? I thought we only payed it on new items, is that not true? Surely a private sale of old goods should not attract UK taxes or am I Naïve....
Or is it luck? I bought an Losi RC car from the states and it did not get VAT and it cost 99quid!
HO Hum

umm but seems Customs charge on anything coming in as no UK tax has ever been paid.............
Only sure thing in this world is .... death and taxes !
Does show up some of the differences in pricing. quantities are of course huge in the US compared to UK but I'd have thought numbers across Europe were reasonable.
Shouldn't be paying VAT on 2nd hand european imports as tax has already been paid (?) Is this correct - any vat experts?

UKS4APR1 - Can I suggest that if your new kit comes with the original Axxis pads that you swap them out?
i could never get on with them. They were inconsistent, prone to leaving pad deposits on the disc and were extremely wooden.
The Hawk HPS pads are a good alternative.
Also, I have a set of Hawk Blues that are now redundant. They are useful if you get brake wobble due to pad deposition. If used cold they scrub the disc clean in a few miles and return wobbly discs to perfect condition (as reccommended by stoptech) - send me a PM if you want them...

Thanks DavidR - It was down to your various posts on the subject of Brakes that set me on the road to Stoptech. Yes the Hawk HPS always get good reviews. Surely if uneven pad deposits (causing judder) are a problem, then a rebedding-in process will cure it. Granted in extreme circumstances an agressive "racing" compound will scrub them clean.
I'll see how it goes. The discs and calipers are very much lighter than standard and what a tight fit!
Regards VAT and Customs - you will be shafted all ways round, no argument they just charge Tax on everything INCLUDING shipping charges(!) AND carriers charge a "Handling Fee" on top of everything else even though you've paid the shipping charges!!
TIPS - "Gift" or "No Value" and "Faulty parts returned unable to repair" are useful phrases to assist in Customs charges !!!
If you don't agree with the charges and refuse to pay, driver takes parcel back [return to sender] driver has no say in the matter (obviously) and where do you go to complain??
Still saved a lot of money by Importing. Check out USA - it's cheap right now!

Not always.UKS4APR1 wrote:Surely if uneven pad deposits (causing judder) are a problem, then a rebedding-in process will cure it.
I did a track session, and could not cure the post track judder with rebedding, sanding etc etc.
This risk is that the heat generated in the rebedding process can alter the disc composition causing permanent high spots, requiring at best disc replacement, or worse a new disc...
