Nope, the fuse goes in the fuse box.
The relays are square plastic blocks, normally in a row above all the fuses. In either the manual or on the fusebox cover you will see a diagram of the layout of the fusebox. This will tell you which relay does the indicators.

Hope that helps.

I'm a bit unsure of the difference between a fuse and a relay . I'll have a look in the manual and at the actual items this evening and report back.

Thanks guys for your patience. At this rate the problem should be fixed by the summer.

Hazard Lights seem to work fine.

Right, I've had a look and I'm not sure about the difference between a relay and a fuse. I have pulled the cover off the end of the dashboard next to steering wheel. In there are lots of pretty coloured things you can pull out and put back in again. They range from 5 amps to 30 amps. I have replaced No. 2 which is for Turn Signals (10 amps). I guess these are fuses. As for the relays, I don't know where they are? There aren't any square plastic blocks above the fuses. Can anyone help?

i cant help without loking at mine.
changing the fuse would have made no difference as it would either work if ok or not work at all if the fuse had blown.

Sorry, I can't help without looking at mine either.

Yes, the fuses are the different coloured things with the numbers on them saying how many Amps they are. You will notice that the colour also indicates the rating of the fuse.

Relays look like square plastic boxes, usually black, and normally around 30mm square, and between 20mm and 50mm high, dependent on their function and rating.

If you pulled one out it has a set of pins underneath it.

If you look in your owners manual it should tell you where the relays are located, and list them too along with each of their functions.

Cheers,
John.

The Audi S4/A4 manual I have got doesn't even list the word "relay" in the index or contents. Where are the b**tard things? I will also do a post on the S4 2.7 sections.

Having just checked in the owners manual I feel I ought ot appologise, as that doesn't mention any relays either.

If you have brought the workshop manual, go to the electrical section towards the back and look atthe circuit diagrams. on the index to the diagrams find the number for the indicators, and then trace its wiring back to what should be either the :
- flasher relay, or
- hazard relay.

With a bit of luck the electrical section might describe wher the relays are (if any). It is possible they have all been replaced by a solid state controller.

If I get the chance to have a look in a manual I'll see what I can figure out for you.

Cheers,
John.
