Did those have one Green and one Brown coloured slots you plugged them into? Those should be Starter 1 and 2 relays from the diagrames I looked at the other day.

Hi Sam,

Yep - they were the same ones that Daytona had changed in the other thread.
The 2nd & 3rd relays from the left.

Cheers

Cool, thanks Mike. Fingers crossed that will solve the issue for you, and goodwork on the relays

Well that didn't last long....
Stuck in Sainsburys car park and it won't start again...
At my wits end with it..

Bugger

So you've done:
ECM relays - under scuttle panel
Starter relays - under drivers side column

What about starter motor, also do you have any aftermarket alarms/immobilisers fitted?

So far....

New starter motor a couple of weeks ago
2x(614/644) relays under the scuttle panel - ECM relays
2x(373/381/645) relays under the steering column

aftermarket Clifford alarm/immobiliser fitted professionally - i turned blackjax off a good few months ago.

It started about an hour after my last post but I did notice that when it did start, I had to hold down the starter button.
Next thing to do - change the 2 clutch switches over the weekend.
I already have them but I've had enough with the car for today, so I'll fit them over the weekend!!

EDIT - I think the car's developing a character - this non starting has happened the last 2 or 3 times going to Sainsburys but been ok elsewhere...

Cheers
Mike

Ok, have a read through this link below and see Irishmikes reply. He had replaced everything you have done and was still getting starting issues when warm.

Cheers Sam - I'll have a good read.
I seem to be getting different errors to irishmike but worth taking on board all the same.
I'll give my car a scan tomorrow and see what comes back.
The battery was replaced a couple of years ago as well but I may well put it on charge on the weekend to see if it needs juicing up.
With regards to irishmikes aftermarket alarm/immobiliser drawing a small current, would that still occur if the battery was fully charged?

Thanks
Mike

So not had time to reply or update recently but it's still being looked at by the mechanic (might ring today to see if any progress has been made)
For info my issue was initially only early mornings, once it warmed up it never seemed to be an issue however recently before it's first trip to Audi it because more and more regular regardless of temperature

For me the RS never actually cranks when the starter button is depressed, if it cranks it starts okay... but its getting it to crank which is the issue. Mechanic told me he had bypassed most electrics (from the starter relay??) and the issue was the same. You say yours is cranking but just not starting... I would first check the ignition system (e.g. spark plugs, coilpacks)... chances are though your engine has most likely flooded which would stop it from sparking, or possibly your battery draining. Take the spark plugs out and check them first

ok, yeah the battery has been mentioned a few times although its only 12 months old, but next time this happens I will jumper cable it and see if it starts, if it does then new battery it is, cheers for the reply

Just to add, the flooding and battery dying I was referring to was a byproduct of continuous cranking without start, although I wouldnt totally rule out battery though.... just one of the several possibilities

Just because a battery is fairly new it doesn't mean it is fully charged. 12 months is plenty to drain a battery depending on usage.
