Was payment by paypal? If so, they offer buyer protection - tell the scammer, I mean buyer, to take it up with paypal and leave you out of it. I'd also raise a dispute with ebay otherwise he'll probably give you negative feedback, and might put in a complaint to them himself.

It's not your problem. You're protected by eBays (very limited) seller protection. You've done everything right. Tell the scammer/buyer to raise an eBay INR case. Then when you provide tracking, you're covered.
I've been trading on eBay for 15+ years, and this last year has been the worst by far. 10+% of my items don't get received apparently (that's 40 items a month!) Unfortunately everything I sell pretty much goes RM 1st/2nd class untracked so I'm an easy target. eBay is rife with scammers. Just buy something that's sent untracked, claim it didn't arrive, and eBay will side with the buyer 100% of the time - this is a known fact. Scammer can't lose.

At my last property the Royal Fail delivery guy regularly dropped items through the post box or left them at the side of the house that were recorded signed for. I can only guess he signed for them as I presume they need an electronic signature to complete the delivery!!!

I've not heard anything back from the buyer. I've told him to open a case but nothing as yet. I've also opened a claim via PFW to investigate.
