Sounds like you may need to count your losses and engage with the offer as tabled I suspect...good luck

Try Sellcar.co.uk they will give you a personalised quote. I would be interested in what comes back.

I'm trying not to be interested but holding onto a brace of RS6's is becoming unfair on one of the cars.

I am sure they are going to be a classic one day but its running the bloody things. On reading that email obv they will inspect the car which I suspect will mean they will pick fault about alloys, tyre tread depth, minor imperfections so I would be interested to know what there final figure would be.

Everyone 'gets' book but no one sells at book, they just get offered book...

Hi Everyone!

The car was taken in last Saturday and I just had a phone call to say that it needs a new gearbox oil cooler but other than that it is ready to go. The one on eBay the garage found had the pipes cut off too close to the cooler but they need it with longer pipes intact. They are expensive new so has anyone got one from a car they are breaking I can buy with said pipes still on it? I will post it in the parts section too.

What exactly is up with the current cooler? Commonly the threads strip when you dismantle, but I did a DIY on repairing it with a brass sleeve and custom made length of replacement hose and fittings.

It's actually not an Audi cooler, it's a Setrab. If you fit a used one, make sure it's really really thoroughly cleaned internally before fitting. Best practice dictates always fit new coolers cos they collect crap internally which can be difficult to remove, but I know loads of people do fit used...most get away with it, but some don't. Just an FYI.

Good advice! I have managed to find a used one which is getting taken off tomorrow and they will test it and guarantee it. As far as I know it is the problem with the threads on the pipes although I seem to think he said it was leaking too and they don't want to chance using it. I guess I have to go with their recommendation on this one.

"Chancing it". And a used cooler, based on the note I made above, isn't. Uh-huh. :biggrin3:
Do make sure the reason the donor was being scrapped wasn't due to an engine failure.

FWIW, here's the DIY I wrote to repair a knackered thread on the cooler.

Well at long last I collected the car on Saturday morning and its pretty much rained every day since but I have covered a few miles and the car is spot on again. Its cost alot but I am so glad that I went ahead with the work and touch wood I won't have any further problems for awhile :biggrin2: but hey ho. They also left the sprocket in for me to keep as either a lethal weapon or a very uncomfortable Keyring attachment! Thats another C5 thats hasnt gone to the big scrapyard in the sky.

Suspect you were really unlucky with a bad part there. It's not even as if there's a lot of load on that gear.

Glad to hear it's resolved, though.
