Brilliant! Many thanks.

I've got the inspection booked for Weds morning so fingers crossed it goes well and I will have the car shortly after that.

Did you get your Avatar pic at Cochem beside the Nurburgring? The reg plates cause me much amusement when I was there last year.

Yup. But that photo was taken ages ago. Must be at least 5 years ago. Guess that guy's still going.

Went for an RAC report in the end.

It pointed out the minor bits that I had noticed, but in addition the inspector said that there was an oil leak beside the driveshaft on the driver's side. But that he couldn't see what it was as he didn't remove the plastic cover.

From looking on here, it looks like that could be a diff or gearbox oil seal, both of which seem easy enough to sort. Is there anything catastrophic it could be? The gearbox is working fine.

Appreciate it that it's not easy to answer without seeing the car :)

Probably the diff oil seal. It's not too difficult to change. It means that you'll have to find it an check the levels. If it's the gearbox that's leaking it's more involved and it's gonna cost you a couple of hundred quid so you might as well just service it as the same time.

Many thanks for your help.

Well, that's the deal done and I'm picking the car up tomorrow night. I'm excited :)
