G2/G62 coolant sensor question
Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
There isn't enough space to get mole grips down there, let alone adjust them when down there!

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
Maybe that was why. I must have had a good reason but I'm screwed if I can remember what it was!

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
Can you remember how easy it was to get the new clip on? I'll definitely be tying it to a piece of string so I can fish it back out if I drop it!

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
You can do it with your fingertips. The only hassle is the being sure that the clip is in place. It makes a satisfying click when you get it in properly, but it's easy to deform it if you miss the hole.
Also think about the orientation of the new sensor so that next time you want to get it off you haven't put the tab on the electrical connector in an alignment that's impossible to depress to get off.

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
The connection between the sensor and the electrical connector? Thankfully mines facing straight up, should be okay there!

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
All changed. Wasn't that hard - sensor was pretty hard to get out though. I also needed to change a MAF seal but luckily I had a spare.
Next problem, noticed that some of the SAI pipes were frayed so I set about replacing a couple. And managed to break one of the ends off the N112 valve (!). Bloomin brittle things.
Should be able to get one in a couple of days (ebay breakers have them - for £100! yet ETKA seems to think they are only £25 new), but my question is what happens if I drive the car without the SAI pipes connected to anything. I know the SAI is only used at cold startup so will obviously get an error.

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
Don't some people 'delete' the SAI altogether, implying you could probably do without it altogether without causing any damage (if only temporarily until you sort it out)?
Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
They do Nick, but I don't think they remove all the piping. I think they just disable the pump from starting (and stop any emission related errors coming up), all valves should remain closed, as would the soleniods.

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
As long as there are no vac leaks then you'll be OK until you get the new part.
The new N112 should only be about £30 or so; I've got a spare one I can lend you if you like.

As in the circlip, the electrical connector, or pulling it out the hole when these two were already dealt with?Nobby wrote:All changed. Wasn't that hard - sensor was pretty hard to get out though.

Thanks Shop
I'll block off the ends of each pipe and should be fine then.
Don't worry about the spare thanks - I've ordered one to be delivered tomorrow for £30. God knows how people on ebay think they are £100!

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
Circlip came off fine, but was cracked and couldn't be reused. I used some plumbers pliers (or whatever they are called). The sensor felt like it was seized solid and having only 1 hand to grip it wasn't fun. But a bit of WD40 and some easing/twisting and eventually it popped out. Lost pretty much no coolant either - car was cold when changed. New sensor went in fine but was wanting to pop back out before clip was put in. Needs a few little twist to get in too. Clip went in fine first time.Ian_C wrote:As in the circlip, the electrical connector, or pulling it out the hole when these two were already dealt with?Nobby wrote:All changed. Sensor was £32.18
Clip was £0.56
Seal was £1.33

Re: G2/G62 coolant sensor question
Spot on the price I paid - although they only sent the sensor so I"m currently chasing them for the o ring seal and circlip.
Like yourself I'm hoping to change it without doing a coolant change. When I tried the other day Last time I parked it hot, unscrewed the coolant cap to release the pressurised air then resealed it so the tank will be under vacuum the next morning when stone cold
Cheers for the tip on the WD40 - I might put a bit on in advance before I have another go. I also kept the last bottle of coolant I used up and have it currently stood on end so I have a splash of G12 ready to dunk the new O ring in - heard this makes it easier to seat it
