Thanks to all you guys for the help and advice, awesome stuff.

Heres the health report results on the discs (the rest of car is another story!!!)

Front Discs are at 30mm
Rear Discs are at 18mm

How far past Audi's recommended is ok to skim?

30mm!!!!! Nah they can't be surely? Thats proper worn if they are correct with that?

30mm and I would expect you to be eating through disc by now.

+1

32mm is recommended minimum on front, and IIRC it's 20mm for the rear

If the 30mm / 18mm is accurate then the car needed discs all round about 10k miles ago! - get them double checked first though, as it's a lot of money to spend if not necessary

And of course skimming not an option as it just removes more metal - in fact, skimming is only worth considering if you've got corrosion build up on the discs and / or vibration

Where did you buy the car from ?? if a dealer i would be having a word to get them to replace the discs as the car is not fit for purpose with the thickness being below the Audi minimum.

If they really are at 30mm and 18mm then it sounds to me like either the dealer or previous owner has skimmed them to avoid fitting new ones before parting with it

Here are some photos of the discs, not the best but you can see the giant lip on them. Now maybe I am to blame for not noticing this and getting caught in the moment of seeing and buying the car, but every mechanic who has seen and felt the discs says the car should never have been sold with these on in the first place.

I have spoken to the dealer I bought it from and he is wanting to see the health report :knob:

I have also spoken to consumer advice, they advised me that the car was sold not fit for purpose (some one mentioned that on here) so I can get them to repair or refund me for the work? Is this right? Has anyone else had this much ball ache before?!

Focking annoying, and makes me pretty peeved off, taints the fun of the whole thing.

To add to this, the headlights are flickering and apparently I need new bulbs, and the front shocks have a very slight leak :boohoo:

they don't look good mate.

so basically the dealer sold you a car with knackered brakes, knackered front suspension and dodgy headlights....nice!.

unless the dealer agrees to do all the work without fuss i would return the car and demand your money back.

that is 3k+ to spend there just to make this car safe.

Yeah I feel like a bit of a mug.

I'm in talks with him about it all now, hopefully he does the right thing.

Did you buy from an Audi or indie dealer?

Feel your pain, just looking at some expensive repairs myself after just getting the car a few weeks ago!

Also recognise the location in the picture as I live very close to there in Edinburgh. If you see a Daytona saloon around that area it's most likely me, give me a shout if you ever want to meet up to exchange moans!

Nice looking car btw, hope the enjoyment of driving it makes up for the pain of getting it fixed by the dealer.

You're not a mug, there is always someone worse. I fell in love with mine the instant I saw her. So far I'm up to 6k since purchasing in November :) That does include a service and loba front disks when I changed them. You know what though, I still don't regret it!

Dont feel a mug - it happens to the best of us.

When i bought mine i went over it with, what i thought, a fine tooth comb.

Checked all the usual items - brakes, exhuast flaps, shocks tec.

Exhaust flaps were sticking so had them sorted by the dealer before purchase, disks had a lip and i pointed this out and had them checked for thinkness - came back at 32.8 mm on front - so knew they would need replacing soon.

Got car home and a week later gave it a good wash onloy to find the rear bumper was a slighlty different colour to the rest of the car - how the hell did i miss that !!!! think it was just an issue with the paint on plastic as the area where the boot closes and overlaps the bumper is the right colour, plus its been getting worse over the two years i have had it - must get it resprayed.

With regards to your issue - have the disc thinkness measured by a professional independant garage, ask Audi to give you a letter stating what the minimum thinkness of the discs allowed are.

If your thinkness is less than the minimum take back to the dealer and instist they change the discs or return the car as not fit for purpose.

Flickering front headlights is a common issue - i had it on my S4 and have t slighlty on the RS4 - could either be the bulb or the balast.

On the shocks a very slight leak (misting) can happen and wouldnt be an MOT failure - however if its a major leak then the shock is knackered and needs replacing (DRC is expensive) - i woul dhave this checked out by Audi.

As i understand it you have the right to return a car within 3 months of buying it if there is anything wrong with it and it is down to the dealer to prove there was nothing wrong with i when you bought it. After 3 monhts you have to prove it was faulty when you bought it.

Either Adsgreen or Petroldavid know more on this subject - but as i undertand returning a car is a real ball ache so better to get the dealer to sort it for you.

Which dealer did you buy from and how long ago ?
