I've never changed them myself on the RS4 but I've done it many times on other cars. Looking at all the bits it looks pretty much straightforward. Just remember there are 2 sets of pads per disc ie 8 pads in total for the front.
Speak to Tile Diver though, I'm pretty sure he had a nightmare when he attempted it. For the sake of £60 I had my local garage do it.

Mileage is 45,500.
I assume you mean just the fronts? 45,500 miles sounds about right for the first set of discs although it sounds like you have a bit of life left in them still.

OEM Discs from Stoke Audi £528
Set of EBC Yellow Stuff pads £157 with free delivery
Fitting £60

Total £745 plus delivery of discs (think it was £10 or £15).
Much cheaper than Audi and better brakes.

I've never used a run-out gauge for a disc change before.

you should... if they don't go on flush you will flat spot and kill your discs in a few hundred miles, especially now as these cars are 6 ish years old and the hub surfaces may be corroded.

I am a newbie to be (Avant).

I have a few questions. The car I am looking to buy is full history, all recall, but with 60k on the clock. How are people finding their avants at those mileages?

Secondly, I know this car will need new front discs/pads in about 5k. Its had rears but will need the fronts. What sort of price would that be?

Cheers all
I got a deal through a local dealer at about 20% off list on OEM rotors. You can also get jhm lightweight rotor rings for about the same price as stock. Jhm also sells OEM rotors for cheap. I'm sure other shops will too closer to you.

I bought Carbotech bobcat pads and they're fantastic. Less dust than stock and no performance loss or feel loss. Just lost one thing... The annoying OEM cold pads squeak. Dealer quoted $630 for front OEM pads. I got the Carbotech for $200.

Dealer quoted $2000 for fronts all in. I paid $1200 all in with them doing the Labour and using my supplied parts.

Shop around.
