Get it fixed Toney, you will be chuffed to bits with it once sorted, from what PG has told me the gen 2 DRC is much more reliable :thumb:

Just to perpetuate this thread, is the gen 2 DRC referred to by Silas above the second generation of dampers supplied by Audi?

Without repeating an earlier thread of mine in full and boring everyone, 3 dampers were replaced on my car under the 'goodwill' scheme in 2010 (before I owned it) and now the other one looks to have gone. Are the replacement dampers likely to last longer than the originals ie did Audi resolve the problem, or is this an inevitable repair every few years that might warrant going over to conventional struts?

When they say "gen 2" I believe they're referring to the revision "b" damper part numbers e.g 8E0 412 020 B / 8E0 412 019 B.

If you are being technical about it they are actually Gen III because the C5 RS6 DRC was first, but they are the second upgrade version of the B7 RS4 DRC damper. To date as far as I have read, no one has had Gen II failure unless not properly fitted / pressurised. And when I say properly fitted not all Audi franchises have the RS4 DRC pressurisation tool and try to use the one they have for the C5 RS6 which does work but not properly.

I had my fronts replaced at 32k miles with the uprated versions and sold at 99k miles 4 years later with zero issues if that gives you some confidence in them.

Thanks P-G, I'll ask the main dealer if they have the correct RS4 pressurisation tool before they do any work.

Sorry to hear you're still having issues! Very good advice and great to see you're taking it.

Once it's sorted properly you'll absolutely love it!!

Thanks mate. Giving it one last shot, see what unit20 say, if it's not too bad then I'll just do it and keep it for a while at least. If it's gonna cost too much then I'll just leave it and part-ex and cut my losses.

Just really gutting to have it all "done" (£1300-worth) and then realise it's worse than before! I've put a lot into this car since I've had it, fixing little bits and pieces (bit like a restoration!).

Wise advise from others on here. Hope you get it sorted.

Curious by the comment of getting the RAC to pick the car up, I'm over 250 miles away from unit 20 so a bit of a pain to get to if I have DRC issues (hope I'm not tempting fate)

Do the RAC offer this service ? How do you go about getting it ?

I have full green flag cover under my bank account, would this fall under the take to nearest dealer to fix ?

Yeah, you need the "Recovery" option with RAC it looks like: "We'll take you, up to 7 passengers and your car to your chosen destination anywhere in mainland UK."
