If if turn the volume up to lets say max (30) then go come out of that menu, turn the volume down then go back in, it just shows me what the volume is currently set at.
What works for some people (but not all like I said earlier) is to set the volume you want, exit Engineering Mode then completely turn off the RNS-E (i.e. lock the car and wait a short while - as the RNS-E stays turned on until either you lock the car or 30 minutes after you turn off the ignition).

Then unlock the car and turn the RNS-E on, if it's worked then the startup volume will have changed - but as I said before, this doesn't work in every case and in 7+ years nobody I know has worked out why it does or doesn't work.

Hi Guys
resurrecting this old thread. Can anyone confirm that the below RNS-E unit is what I need to upgrade the existing head unit? Also looking at this its got a matt grey screen bezel so looking like it will just be a straight swap and no messing about trying to get the bezel off??

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A3-S3-RS ... 338428ce9f

Also I will want to swap out the CD changer for a MMI and again just checking if the below item is correct and also do I need any further parts to get this lot up and running?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171069625468

Thanks in advance guys :thumb:

I'm considering doing this in the next few months, but I have to retro fit as I have a single din installed at present. I found this:

Should be a straighter swap? Bit more expensive mind you.

Hey Yanos :bigwave:
yeah that's a nice unit but I want to try and get one (if possible) with a matt grey face. That will save the effort of changing the screen bezel and mean I can then stick the existing unit straight on eBay to recoup some of the outlay. Gonna search around and see what I can find other thing is I may also get a MFSW to control this unit but need to understand where the sport button is then operated from? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

It's fitted on the dash beside the parking sensors etc buttons.

I've been sorting out some PC and printer problems so I couldn't get online much yesterday.

I've replied to your PM (don't buy the unit you sent me the link to, it's NOT a 2010+ unit).

Although I run an older C5 RS6 it had the RNS-E as standard.
Hence when I acquired it the DVD drive was trashed.

I've recently had the 2010 RNS-E from an A3 fitted with LCD etc alongside OEM Bluetooth and AMI.

A really knowledgeable retro fitter from Manchester sourced and carried out the fit for me and had stacks of goodies on his shelves and was for a very fair price. He is the main stealers go to man up there. If your interested in his number I can supply!

Craig did my 07 RS4 Avant RNS-E 2010+ upgrade, centre console swap out [to remove the cradle] and installation of my AMI into the glovebox. He charged me a a grand for the whole lot. He is mobile and will come to you or meet you somewhere convenient. He's a top bloke and as armyair said he deffo 'knows his onions' - Definitely recommended.

Just emailed him. Im in the south so Im guessing we could meet half way. I'll see what he says :thumb: One thing (poss for PetrolDave) how difficult is it to have the TV set up and working? I have mentioned this to Craig and also if it can be done to have TV in motion set up. I had this in my M3 and its great for when you stuck on the M25 in a huge jam!!!!

You have to fit the newer Audi digital TV tuner (which craigyb has done for several people), but the problem you'll have is that your glass most likely will not include the extra antennas and you most likely won't have the different antenna amplifiers needed by the OE TV tuner - so you may have to go the aftermarket route.

TV in motion is a problem with the 2010+ RNS-E - AFAIK there is not yet a widely available SW patch to enable it (although there is for the pre-2010 RNS-E). Again craigyb may have a solution for this.
