Well, it looks like my decision has been made for me. I decided to go ahead with at least getting the current engine stripped down to see what we were looking at and I went with the guys that I trust 40 miles away and it was arranged to drop her there today. The new seats had been cleaned by my guy, a million and one replacement bits had arrived but sadly weather stopped me from doing anything to her this Mon-Wed.

Had chemo on Thursday but swung in to a Subaru dealership on the way to pick up a load of parts I had ordered. fought off the chemo effects and was out on the car from 9am until past 10pm last night, the interior had been pretty well totally reassembled, various little fixes made, the various boot leaks fixed for good (again), a ton of other bits & pieces. Was out there at 6am this morning feeling like death doing odds & sods, drilling out the front splitter so we were good to tow and then off we went.

Madam had indicated being prepared to give towing with a solid (sprung loaded) bar a go but didn't like the idea of being the person at the back. We borrowed my mum's A6 estate and I got us all hooked up. The 40 mile journey to Newbury went really smoothly, madam drove brilliantly, until, we got to Newbury and it all went horribly wrong. She got flustered, managed to not follow/understand what the TomTom was saying to do, wasn't looking at me behind her enough or claimed that she couldn't see me. Anyway, we got to within 500 yards of Subaru4you and before I knew it we were 3 lanes over from where we needed to be and heading towards the M4.

At the very last minute she realises, pulls across 3 lanes (luckily nothing else was going our way at the time), then stops at 45 degrees across the various lanes. <beep>. I am sitting there screaming my head off to move and she eventually gets going again. As we pass und the road we just swerved across to double back the way that we are supposed to, I point out to her that ideally she should be in the left lane to guarantee an easy life. She tries but gives up and continues in the middle lane. Fair enough, I figure that she has looked at the tomtom screen showing that she is turning left in a moment and has seen the road markings stating that she is actually ok in the middle.

Sadly, I was wrong. Once again she was all flustered, somehow ignored the Tomtom screen/audible instructions and before I know it we are overshooting the turning and about to hit a ton of traffic. She panics, slams the anchors on, tow bar folds in half and I go straight in to the back of her. You can imagine my reaction inside the car after the 45 degree antics 1 min prior to that.

Madam has now totally fallen apart but I get her to get it together enough while I am flat on the ground, legs sticking out in to various lanes while I try and unfold the towbar, take apart what is left of it so I can get the cars separated. Pushed Fluffy back myself as there was no way madam would be able to get across 3 lanes of traffic to go back around again and actually make the turn. Got her to actually listen to Tomtom and off she went to Subaru4you while I fast pushed what was left of my car across various lanes to get her out of the way. I stood against her for a minute or two trying to run through how it all went so horribly wrong, then I thought to hell with it, fired up the buggered engine and drove the last 500 yards to what is probably her final resting place.

The frontend is toast. Lightweight JDM STI bonnet is toast and very difficult to obtain I am told, front bumper toast, slam panel mildly toast, 1 headlight toast, aircon rad mildly toast, god knows what else, I gave up looking really.

For any of you that are reading this and laughing, thanks, I look forward to life coming around and punching you in the throat like it has done to me this year, I am just sitting here in utter disbelief about everything.

Bought bloody road tax for her at the crack of dawn this morning too. Not claiming on my insurance as this one was on 3rd part temp 28 day addon to my policy and if I claim for the damage to mum's car my no claims will get screwed. Anyway, harrumph. Off to bed now to recoup from the last 48 hours.

Nooooooooooo!!

Could have been a lot worse, at least no other cars were involved otherwise that would have impacted your (or her) insurance. But not good to see the car in that now-bashed state. What you thinking - directing your time into breaking the car and selling it plus the mountain of decent bits you have collected?

Buy the P1 in the meantime!

Lol Dunc I am fine and I haven't disowned madam or anything either, it is just life and one of those things, but it sucks. I love her to bits but my spidey senses were tingling about her towing me (would have been a million times happier towing her but she would have struggled with no power steering and trying to keep the car lined up with a certain point on the back of the Audi as the towing points weren't aligned), but she did a really top job up until where it really mattered, c'est la vie.

Lee did an amazing job cleaning them and they looked really close to new by the end of it. They has lots of surface rust under them for some bizarre reason and also has a funny oily/brake fluid smell under there too so I attacked the bases with a drill/wire brush addon for 30 mins of so to get rid of most of that and used lots of brake cleaner to remove the residue. No bloody idea how the bloke managed to cake the metal bottoms in brake fluid but there you go.

More annoyed that I have to get my mum's A6 repaired, not that you could tell that it just took out another car with its fat backside. Slightly dented back bumper and a little bit of denting to the bootlid door, heyho. Right, I had better get another of those tow rods ordered so I can tow her back here again at some point..... I have asked the guys to give me a rough price just for the bodywork repair but if I go 100% correct on the front repair I could easily be down 2k after sourcing the right bonnet, then I am back to the whole reason why I took her there in the first place. Previous owner rammed her up the backside, reversed up a kerb tearing off the mudflaps/mounts, now the front has been caved in, I just don't think I am going to be happy with her again.

Not 100% happy regarding the engine work done to the P1 I am hovering around but came across this last night:

Image

Ignoring the idiotic numberplate, that looks mildly sexual to me, is running 450 bhp (weird that the ricer boys never seem to mention torque...) has had a lot of work done to her and is easily within my price range. Northern Ireland though. Again, slightly light on the inner engine details but will see what the chap says.

What you going to do about the Scooby, Footers? I drove a Scooby back from NI once. Ferry from Belfast to Stranrear, stop off at post office for tax then a good blast to the M6.

Haven't thought about it too much really. Think I will tow her back here and strip her out, I should clear 2.5-3k easily enough on the mods and will bin the shell. Decided that I can cope with a 100kg more or so, so I am also looking at black JDM STI ones too, no watered down UK models. There is a fairly well modded one on sub-60k miles going for under 10k so I may go have a nosey at that at some point. Main problem with it is stupid stick out rims that are wider than the tyres but chavs fall over themselves for that stuff so I will have those sold off sharpish. Other problem is running on stock forged internals so the power is reined in to 450hp/around 390 ftlbs..

If madam likes the car as much as I think she will, I will sell off the S3 go to town on the last bits to finish the internals. I can list the work done to the one I am now looking at if you want?
