Air conditioning issues

Post by Doug_RS6 » Mon Jul 25, 2022 9:13 pm

So my air con doesn't seem to work. I had it regassed about 4 weeks ago and it was apparently totally empty. It then worked for 2 days ish. Now its blowing ambient temp again.

If it was leaking then surely it would have shown up when they regassed it?

When AC is re-gassed they usually evacuate the system to remove water vapour and hold a vacuum to check for leaks, so a leak should have shown up. Perhaps they just didn't wait very long?

AC leaks are often caused by stone damage on exposed parts of an old and corroded condenser, or old / perished / cracked O-ring seals at various points (especially near exhaust).

is the light on the econ button lit red and when you press the button it will not go out your aircon will be empty, if it isnt lit red it prob be the pressure switch faulty which was the case with mine. i changed my pressure switch but unfortunatly the valve under the switch was fault and let all the gas out. which in turn put the red light on.

It goes out when pressing the Econ button. It was under vacuum for a good 30 mins I'd say. Is the pressure switch generic to all A6 of this age?

Generic to all sorts of VAG cars from about 2005 onwards. Dunno how much Audi charge but you can pick up a decent aftermarket switch for less than £40

Thanks, I've ordered one online. Unfortunately looks like a bumper off job and I really hate getting those two side nuts back on.

Does anyone know if parts 4F0959126A and 4H0959126A are interchangeable?

FYI turns out the valve cores at the high and low pressure ports were leaking.
