Gearbox issues C7.5 PE - Stage2

Post by joshviiv » Thu Jan 13, 2022 4:45 am

Gents, first time RS owner - I got into a 2017 RS6 performance, here in australia they are a little more rare than europe!

This is my dream car, so i got straight into getting it to my spec - i've had brondex catless downpipes installed along with the evolve technik stage 2 tune.

Took the car to the drag strip - dynamic mode on, ESC totally off, brake boost launch. The car would get out of the hole fast, and then when i tried to click second gear, the gearbox wouldnt change. It went immediately into limp mode - i drove the length of the track in first gear, switched car off, switched back on - gearbox now works again.

However i've noticed, when the car is in Drive (auto), when taking off from a complete stop there will be almost a lurch in the gearbox immediately as it starts to roll away. If you take off fast, its very very noticeable. Its almost like the clutches arent engaging early enough and then suddenly it'll lurch forward. I also noticed that when the car is rolling, if you put your foot down to overtake or something, the car will BANG back down into gear, its not smooth at all like it was pre drag strip incident.

The other thing to note, is that the car drives perfectly smooth in manual mode. No lurch from standstill, changes up and down beautifully.

Anyone experienced something similar? Any advice on what i need to be looking at?

First steps for me will be to reset the tcu back to factory (i read that the gearbox learns? im thinking maybe its out of whack somehow). And i also intend to put a TCU tune in it to see if that makes a difference.

I understand issues like this are very hard to diagnose online - but its a fairly obvious issue and if anyones experienced it before i'd love to hear what you found.

cheers!

J

Unfortunately well beyond my level of expertise (might be the auto-gearbox synching is out due to the additional power the Stage 2 has - but that's just a wild guess based on it working fine under manual gear selection), but there's some great people on here who will be able to offer really top notch advice. So just wanted to say "G'day, well done on the Ashes win, and tell Djokovic to piss off!". Car looks a beauty, you deserve to feel very proud of her.

Has the gearbox software been updated to take the increase in torque from the engine map?

Admittedly I don't have any experience of mapping these cars but it does sound as if the gearbox is not happy with the extra torque particularly when hitting it hard. Sounds like the torque limit needs to be raised in the gearbox map...

Strange, those gearbox can handle up to 1000 of torque, something is here not right. Did you bough used car or you bought it new and did stage ?

The user above sounds like he's having a much worse issue, mine doesnt make noise at all - i'm confident a flash to default and then the TCU tune will fix the problems i'm having. But my car was standard before i took it to stage 2. Unsure what the gentleman above has done to his..

Thanks all for your responses, i'll update the thread once my guys have fiddled with it.
