The test with the foam filters is over, they are worse than the K&N.
Image 1 shows the measured value block 032 at the time of September 2020 and there is a small amount of carbon deposited on the inlet valves.
image 2 shows the lambda learning value at which the foam filter 1100 KM were operated. Carbon was eliminated in winter 2020/21
Image 3 shows the lambda learning value after two days of operation with the K&N filters.
1: Partial +5,1% / +4,7%
2: -1,2% / -3,5%
3: +5,5% / +5,5%
The foam filters let through less air and thus the engine needs less fuel and thus less engine power.

Current value + 7.9% and + 7.0% the highest value ever achieved.
More fuel means more torque and power.

The V8 is a bit critical in the engine's heat balance and there are two thermostats 87 ° -104 ° and from 2010 85 ° -95 ° degrees.
As a Heissland version, there is an additional water pump that is only coupled with the fans when the air conditioning is switched on, so not perfect on the Audi side.
A continuous run of the pump to get the engine oil to the level of the V10 with 100 ° degrees, the 8Z9 pump is used and connected to a thermo switch 87 ° degrees via terminal 15 via relay.
More information will follow.

Tom, are you ever going to list in order all of your engine, intake, exhaust modifications? I won't be changing things to reduce weight... but I do want to replicate all other instances of what you have done. It's just hard to follow via this thread and even the thread over at R8talk ... something like:
1. port intake plenum to X depth from top to XX mm and shorten plenum height by XX mm . (what about the actuator bar that runs through them all...what to do with that?
2. change v8 throttle body for v10 throttle body (use adapter plate if OEM look is desired - both in same positions) (how did you polish the inside of the upper intake manifold (not the plenum)?
3. change R8 v8 exhaust manifold for RS5 manifold (short, not long ?) (any modifications necessary before just bolting it on and what if we MUST use a catalytic converter here in the communist state of California, USA ?)
4. change air intake to 4" all the way from grill mesh to air filter and from air filter to throttle body. Make sure to use R8 v8 MAF with larger tubing, rather than just swapping to v10 tubing with v10 MAF.
5. change valves to what kind??
6. Use K&N filters (model specs so I can buy the right one)?
7. change cam to which brand model ??
I don't want to fully start this until I know exactly what I'm doing and as of right now, it feels very vague. I'm just trying to get it down solid. can you help an R8 brother out? with a list.

I will try to explain. 1. Take a screw tape 9 mm wide and screw it around the outside of the plenum.
Use a hacksaw and saw the 9mm clamp (to guide the saw) to saw out 11-12mm. Finished it looks like in the picture.

2. For the 82mm TB you must first determine the position of the new holes for screwing into the inlet manifold. T
here is not much space.
Once you have placed the 82mm TB, you can create the 82mm diameter hole.
Once the 82mm TB has been successfully adapted, you can then have the adapter manufactured on this basis.

The first thing you need to do to see if an engine needs tuning in the intake manifold is to check the gasket between the cylinder head and the intake manifold. With the R8 V8, an increase is possible because the aluminum specifies the wall thickness of the intake pipes and the seal allows this.
In terms of the circumference, a good 2 mm of material can be removed from the inside of the inlet pipe.
If you look at the geometry inside the pipe, you can see that it is not optimally designed.
The plenum is round and after a short stretch turns into a rectangle.
The transition from round to rectangular is shaped very unfavorably and that is the problem for the air.
Here you have to try to let the round penetrate further into the rectangle, so that you create an optimal transition and all with 2mm in the larger inner radius.

The carbon torsion bar from the R8 4S does not fit in the R8 Gen1 !
Last year there was a new Lifepo4 with 40AH
The diffuser can now be removed without removing the bumper.
