Sorry I’ve been quiet on here, Covid-19 has caused all sorts of issues for us. One being the almost 4 months I’ve been waiting for a gearbox to be returned.

We have a back up being sent to NIZPRO in Australia as well.

Above is some charge cooler porn as built by the man himself Badger@hardknockspeedshop.

We will be running two of these and both are rated to 1200hp. Cooling has always been an issue on the c6 so hopefully we can rectify that. We’ve also completely reworked the cooling for the gearbox and upped the line pressure. We should by the end of this month have everything dialled in, engine run in after that.

Final piece of the puzzle is mapping which I don’t think is going to be easy

Well that's very intriguing.... I'm a big fan of charge cooling, though it's difficult to see what these are going to look like. What are the core dimensions? With the power you're chasing you'll need the biggest coolers you can squeeze in.

When someone claims a cooler is rated for a particular power I take it with a pinch of salt, even if comes from Garrett or Bell. Different engines making the same power have different cooling requirements.

I hope your builder is going to use big water pipes - 3/4" is the norm, but not really enough for big power, and the pumps are important. Lots of people use low pressure Johnson, Bosch, Meziere or DaviesCraig pumps, but they really don't cut it.

I can't wait to see how this is going to pan out. I'm looking forwards to those exhaust manifolds! So many questions.

I’m more than confident there big enough, every single cooling component in the car is being upgraded. 1” piping and a Davis Craig pump that’s used in a cooling set up for a car running twice what I’m aiming for

My fabricator builds 4000hp drag cars so I’m tapping into his experience in that field. The charge cooling was his idea as he laughed at how small the current intercooler set up is. Modified intake manifold and custom exhaust manifolds to suit the new turbos are being started next week.

With the gearbox NIZPRO have just responded to say they will post the parts to the uk and I’ll have it built here. The gearbox is the only stumbling block I believe we have tbh, I don’t think we can build the 6 speed to hold enough power.

We’ve looked at using the 8 speed from the c7 but I’m not sure I want to spend any more money. We set a budget and so far we’ve stuck to it

Wow - did you find anyone willing to take that on?

Would be doing it in house if we were but we aren’t bothering. NIZPRO are confident they can build a box that’ll cope with 1500hp

Love the swap from IC's to charge coolers, something I looked into (alongside a CF propshaft) but was hugely expensive overkill at 900hp.

Regarding the C7 box, would that actually be feasible with the front driveshafts lining up to a C6? I know that the C6 box didn't fit the older C5 for that reason so I wonder if the C7 box has the same issue with the C6's engine longer block vs C7 engine block?

Hey mate I never really explored the option tbh with you. NIZPRO have been super super helpful with regards to the box. I’ll keep everyone posted as we go.

The charge cooler swap was a must

Something else that might be worth a think (sadly expensive though) is a Carbon propshaft. I looked at having one done back in 2016 by a company almost next door to MRC but the wait time was like 6 months and the cost was (I think) around £2500-ish.

Do you know what you're going to do for air filters? You can't be much room left now.

It's really interesting that you've got Nizpro on board. They have a great rep for upgrading 6HP26 for big Australian V8 drag racers, but until now they never did an uprated input shaft for the 4WD version because it's longer than the RWD cars (because of the front drive shaft). You may be paving the way for other people to get really solid 6HP upgrades.

Cheers, Nick

Some more shiny parts, the full underside of the car is having an overhaul. All bushes upgraded and all the lines renewed, I’m hoping in the next two weeks we’ve some large exciting updates

How exciting. I assume that's the gearbox from Nizpro?

Are you still going for fabricated tubular exhaust manifolds and steel-linered block?

Yes to exhaust manifolds, not sure on block yet. Rods and pistons arrive finally from JE this week. Can start planning soon as we have them
