Attempted relay theft caught on camera

Reportedly in Catford London yesterday.
He’s using an ‘amplifier’ to grab the key code and fool the vehicle into thinking that the spare key is in use (via the other thief standing next to the vehicle with a laptop or similar) and gain complete access. Luckily this one failed.
It’s an old record to play but a mixture of tech and physical security measures are the best way. Don’t rely on some Gucci high tech system as crooks are always looking to get one step ahead.
Make your car a pain in the arse to steal so they go and grab one that easier.

Or just turn the keyless entry off.

Is that through the MMI settings? There was a switch on Mercedes keys you could use which was pretty handy.

Yeah you can turn it off in the MMI. Same for my non-Audi car at the moment but can't find such an option in my wife's Volvo so she keeps the key in a Faraday pouch. I tested it and it works, you can't open the doors even with the key right next to the car if it is still in the pouch.

That's good to know. I thought they were snake oil. Have you got a link to the one you bought?

I use one for the RS5 and it works a treat. Failing that a metal box or anything that can deflect an RF signal. The pouches are pretty cheap nowadays. Also recommend an RF blocking wallet (you can buy individual sleeves for cards if you so wish) as there’s been evidence of scrotes in busy places such as tube carriages with mobile chip and pin machines going around fishing.

The wife bought it ages ago, but it would no doubt have been from amazon so I'll have a look to see if they still have the same one.

I had a look, I can't find one the same but there are certainly lots to choose from:

I'd look at user reviews for one you like the look of to see if someone has bought one and tested it works. You can always return it anyway if you find it doesn't work properly.
