Steering Wheel Mode Button

Post by Sandy-m2 » Tue Dec 31, 2019 10:11 am

Hello All

On my previous RS6 (c7.5) I had the flat bottom wheel with the mode button allowing me to change the modes (obvs), on my new RS6(c7.5) I have the heated steering wheel. Its nice especially on a cold morning like today but I miss the ability to change the mode from the wheel. I mostly live with the screen away so taking it out and changing the mode is a annoyance to me.

On to the big question - Is there a way to make a button on the steering wheel change the modes? there are plenty buttons I dont use....

TIA

Sandy

Not possible with that wheel. Only possible if you would add an lin chip in your current wheel that recodes one button to send out the drive select code to the car.
The buttons itself are hardcoded individually and can't be changed...unless you capture its signal and converts it before it gets sended to the cars modules.
You could swap buttons (the right full cluster of buttons) with the drive select ones you had in your earlier car..but then you loose the heating steeringwheel (again lin chip would be required to reprogram one of the other buttons).
Alternatively you could add the tt/r8 additional buttons, but i think you will need the left AND right (drive select and start stop buttons or all 4), since the start stop buttons houses the main whereas the driveselect piece is the slave. But that also requires modifications and linchip.
Most easy would be swapping wheel with c7.5 wheel with alcantara (always pretty warm feel in the winter) with drive select buttons....but also pricey option

I'm looking at adding the tt/r8 buttons but trying to find a reliable source for them seems to be the challenge,

Thanks for your reply Dasquade!
