Really good article. Love driving mine, the recent snow was fun and makes you realise how capable all round the car is. Interesting how dull the latest RS4 sounds by comparison.

Great article, indeed. There's nothing like a 750 miles+ road trip to the Alps in an RS4, driving the glass smooth French Autoroutes and going through the tunnels in Grenoble.

When he ran the RS4 as a long-termer, he loved it and couldn't praise it highly enough. Then, when he bought an M3 (this time with his own money), all of a sudden it was an inferior product. Though when Steve Sutcliffe did a back to back on both for the same magazine, he arrived at the opposite conclusion. I haven't trusted Harris's words since.

Fair enough, that is a bit of up and down. M cars a fantastic but I love how easy the RS is. Wet and dry it’s unreal, rear wheel M cars are beyond the capability of most drivers to get the max out of it. The RS is much more accessible I think.

Do you have the details on Sutcliffe’s review? The carwow guy gets on my tits in a way I can barely describe - and in the piece he did on the RS2 and various iterations of the RS4 concluded that fast Audis should be turbocharged. He's used that RS4 in several other vids, and I don't think it's in complete good health. The standing quarter he got with it is a second off what Autocar got back in 2006, and that was two up and with a full fuel tank (as per all their tests). A post-MRC remap/clean etc B7 would be very interesting to see, though...

I think someone should send him a message asking if he wants a lightly tuned (relative to it being N/A) and even a SC car of an owner is up for it to put against them all. The B7 in the carwow video is Audi’s own car. It should be in good running order, but it could quite easily have unnoticed vac leaks etc.

Also i would love to know if that old girl was looked after, carbon clean and 100% working order not somthing they just got out of someones garage for the test.
Just another quick one is the avant quicker than the saloon, i only see him testing the avant version in a few vidoes if im not mistaken and also a few outher people on YouTube. I would have thaught the saloon was lighter, i must check

Also the 200k BMW is an E92 M3 GTS c.450bhp with twin clutch DCT gearbox. The M3 CSL (E46) is c.360bhp with an SMG2 gearbox (single clutch automated manual) and quite a light car.
Yes the B7 saloon is a bit lighter, not much in it though.
