Clutch switches?
Clutch switches?
Cruise control stopped working so I replaced the top clutch switch which sorted the issue . Having done various searches I discovered the car should start by just pressing the button and not have to hold it down . I replaced the lower clutch switch today but still have to hold the starter button until the car starts? Any other suggestions as it's always been like this since I bought the car a year and half ago? Have also noticed recently it's been slightly jerky between gear changes if you let the clutch up to quickly.
Re: Clutch switches?
Just to add I followed the guide on here for fitting the lower switch so had the clutch pedal depressed as I fitted it.
Re: Clutch switches?
I have always held my button down until it started, I’ll try and just press it next time I start it.

Re: Clutch switches?
For info, I only have to touch starter button when clutch down to start.
Re: Clutch switches?
So if I try it and it doesn’t start, does that mean my lower clutch switch needs replaced? Are there any other symptoms?

Re: Clutch switches?
Yes the clutch switch is the usual cure for this hence why I replaced mine . Someone else I spoke to has now suggested the starter relay ?FrazerD wrote: ↑Thu Jan 24, 2019 8:56 pmSo if I try it and it doesn’t start, does that mean my lower clutch switch needs replaced? Are there any other symptoms?

Re: Clutch switches?
Going back a bit now, but from memory; a failing upper clutch switch will give lumpy gearchanges and cruise control won't work. A failing lower clutch switch will stop the Start button working correctly. There may be other things that stop the start button working correctly too though as I assume once you press the button quickly a relay must pick up or a control module must keep the feed going to the starter motor until it starts so it could be that that is failing too. But the switch is the most common failure.FrazerD wrote: ↑Thu Jan 24, 2019 8:56 pmSo if I try it and it doesn’t start, does that mean my lower clutch switch needs replaced? When I tried to change my lower switch as a precautionary measure (there was nothing wrong with it) I broke it and not only had the starter issue but also ended up with an EPC warning permanently on the dash until I fixed it.
Re: Clutch switches?
Thanks, I’ll try next time I’m in the car to see if it starts with one press. My cruise control works so my upper clutch switch is okay, hopefully my lower one is too.MikeFish wrote: ↑Thu Jan 24, 2019 9:15 pmGoing back a bit now, but from memory; a failing upper clutch switch will give lumpy gearchanges and cruise control won't work. Re: Clutch switches?
Had my RS4 out today and glad to report it started with just the push of the button rather than holding it.

Re: Clutch switches?
I must be thick i have searched for the clutch switch guide but cant find it have you got a link please. Also spent 2 hours in the snow with these switches and could not even start the car to put it back in the garage. I left the switches dangaling and not fitted and it started without the clutch in. Think i need to order 2 more and get a garage to fit them now they drove me mad
Re: Clutch switches?
Legend mate thank you,
Re: Clutch switches?
I was a coward and sent it in to a local garage and they did them both for me today. He even stated that they where a nightmare to fit
