Squeaky Suspension
Squeaky Suspension
Hi I have a RS4 B7. I’ve recently changed out the DRC system for a bilstein B14 coilover kit. New top mounts. All upper front arms and drivers front lower rear arm. Also polybushed anti roll bar bushes. There’s a REALLY annoying squeak coming from the drivers front and it’s doing my head in. It sounds like a squirrel is in my wing. It happens constantly when driving no matter what road surface.
Any ideas? Don’t want I change anything just to guess.

Re: Squeaky Suspension
I've had squeaks from polybushes in the past, especially powerflex ones. Could be those?

Squeaky Suspension
Unfortunately the coil-over systems are often a bit noisy, especially at low speed over speed bumps etc... and got some light creaking myself with my B16. I spent lots of time trying to silence it 100% but eventually gave up with mostly all new parts. I think often it’s the coil springs binding against themselves which is tough to fix.rs4jas wrote:Hi I have a RS4 B7. I’ve recently changed out the DRC system for a bilstein B14 coilover kit. Ohhh ok. Just wondered if something was wrong as it didn’t squeak at 1st but after a couple of weeks it started. What if I lifted the front up? Have you tried that? Does that quieten it down?
Re: Squeaky Suspension
You can lubricate your springs and top mounts, you could use sillycunt lubricant:

Awesome I’ll give anything a try.
Re: Squeaky Suspension
Don't the B16s have a different piston protector, like a corrugated sleeve, whereas the B14s have a straight sleeve, could this be causing the sqeak?

Re: Squeaky Suspension
I have exactly the same from my Bilsteins, thought it was the arm bushes being under torsion from tightening the bolts with the arms in droop - so re-did those with the arms in the correct position - no change.
I think it is damper shaft dust cover/sleeve rubbing on the inside of the coils as the squeaking is far less in the wet and seemed to go away for a while after lubricating the sleeve.
Pretty pathetic fault from a manufacturer like Bilstein to be honest.
Wondering if some zip ties around the sock to pull it in a touch might help?

Re: Squeaky Suspension
There is a known issue with B14’s squeaking from memory. If you google or search this forum with B14 included in the key words. Doesn’t apply to B16’s from what I remember.
