Would you buy an ex Audi press car?
Would you buy an ex Audi press car?
So pondering having a change from my RSQ3 and I've seen/got numbers for a Misano RS4 at Newbury Audi.
Doing some research it seems the car is an ex Audi UK press car (You Tube videos as proof), I have to assume it's had a brutal life (6k miles) and I've stepped away. Have I been hasty - would you consider a car with that kind of history?
Thanks

Re: Would you buy an ex Audi press car?
In theory no problem as you have a warranty. In reality though (for me) the thought that the new car has possibly been used and abused would put me off.

or..... show your cards and demand a load of extra discount as the car has likely been red lined dozens of times by lots of different people. Similar to having many previous owners - sort of...

Re: Would you buy an ex Audi press car?
I imagine it's going to have had the best maintenance possible. Any issues will have been taken care of.
I think I would go for it, with suitable discount.
I had a B7 RS4 for 10 years and I red lined it at least every other week with no problems. They are built solid.

Re: Would you buy an ex Audi press car?
From experience I know that the press cars are properly run in and well maintained during their early life. Would you rather this and know it was looked after (but thrashed) or just assume the first owner ran it in properly. I’ve driven a number of cars that were destined for the press fleet and the instructions given were very clear and more than your jobs worth of they were found to be breached...

I haven't totally ruled this out now, partly due to guidance here and on the advice of a respected independent service Shop: 'should be fine, asking for engine/transmission/diff oil changes isn't unreasonable in the circumstances'.

Re: Would you buy an ex Audi press car?
All I would say is that my cars are used hard and as intended but I let everything warm up and cool down properly
My experience of demos and experience cars is that this doesn’t always happen because whoever is in charge of the car doesn’t care one bit about it

Re: Would you buy an ex Audi press car?
Could say the same to some extent on cars on pcp /lease deals too . Some people have zero intention on keeping the car so have little sympathy.

Re: Would you buy an ex Audi press car?
Taking a balanced view of the useful opinions expressed here, I went down to Newbury Audi and carefully inspected the car, aside from some slightly grubby marks on the seat back rest bolsters the vehicle appears to be absolutely mint and carrying some £17k of options - Naturally in 10 months the cost of the options has evaporated, depressing really (My current RSQ3 bought at 9 months old had also lost £17k off it's list price with just 3,000 miles on the clock).
The car has n odd spec i.e. a lunar silver headliner and load rails in the boot - neither are options in the only price list I've been able to find.
Having had a succession of blue Audis (I do own a LOT of blue things) Misano is a bit of a departure for me that I rather like so I've decided to take the car and with the precaution of having engine/transmission/diff oils changed.
The test drive was impressive, not for the simply epic rapidity of the thing, but rather when one backed off and drove it normally, say in a 30 limit was how smooth and refined it can be. The tyre pressure warning system popped a warning for a front tyre - can I assume that this individual wheel system is more accurate than the ABS sensor/rolling circumference effort that the RSQ3 had?
Need to get the personal plate off mine etc so will aim to collect it in a couple of weeks.
